It's difficult thing to balance
We have "urban planners" urging us to live closer together, use mass transit, etc. But this isn't New York City and we have a different mentality about such things.
There are plenty of people here still with large properties, and guns to protect themselves, and then there are wilderness-loving people who want to take the land and return it to its native state, regardless of the cost or damage to people on the land, etc.
A very difficult challenge -- these photos were taken about 100 yards from each other, this morning!

It takes about as long to "develop" the images and write up the story as it does to hike, which allows me time to relax, have a couple cups of tea and some breakfast. Then I am ready to face the day. My history in canyons goes way back -- this image shows...

As I am looking to write better myself. Re wilderness... sad we have to lose parts of our own “personal wilderness” to real estate development. I hope we can save as much “nature” as possible going forward.

I am from the Northeast, but I can appreciate others’ viewpoints on living. A “balance,” or at least an attempt, is all we can ask for...

Less than a mile away, an old two-story headquarters for the local newspaper, surrounded by some gardens, has turned into this in the past 6 months ... in a river bottom that floods from hillside to hillside every 50-100 years. ...

Building everywhere and environmental concerns
I think it's fairly safe from muggers, earthquakes, and nuclear attack
But not so sure about falls, scrapes, cactus thorns, snake bites and occasional hooligans. In the dark or at dawn are times when I prefer to travel with company. Later in the day you have more people, more snakes, and/or heat stroke or sunburn. Of course ...
