Seiko

Lots of good questions

Seiko, through its Credor brand, has already produced a few specials that exceed $250,000 - which is very high in anyone's eyes for "a watch."

The minute repeater Spring Drive, which Ken (KIH) and I have both had the privilege to wear. Here is his profile:

The question is whether they can translate the appreciation paid by Japanese collectors to Credor over to some Americans & Europeans for Grand Seiko.

I have no doubt it will be a wonderful watch. And I would not fear a glut of them on the market as they really only have a couple people to make them - probably shifting over the folks who make Eichi and the minute repeater (the tourbillon comes from a different factory).

Grand Seiko / Credor production comes from a small group on the periphery of Seiko (although its staff is the cream of the Seiko workforce). I'd compare it to the small group at FCA that produces the Viper, or the team of Ford people who are responsible for the GT40.

It's just that the watch represents (to me & especially my wife) a new car, or a decent boat, or a couple very nice vacation cruises, etc. so maybe if I want one I'll have to liquidate a handful of my existing friends (watches).
