Actually, Mettet always has had a racing circuit but it was part of public roads (surrounding the new circuit), the long straights were so crazy they used to put a speedcam to check out topspeeds .... my friend managed a 312 kph ........ on a Ducati 888SP4 
back somewhere in 1992. A similar crazy street-circuit can be found in Chimay (i think) , if you go to youtube you'll probably find old movies .... .
