TimeOut

And now for something completely different...

In addition to my pen and pencil drawings, I have ventured into an experimental phase (sounds grander than it is). Interactive, horological, light art.

After cropping and enlarging a photograph of an Omega Megaquartz with aventurine dial, I proceeded to pierce the image with a scalpel to create an even series of perforations across the photo. This image was already backed with 2 layers of black card after the prototype attempt allowed too much light through. The image was then sandwiched between 2 layers of glass and mounted in the frame, which was expertly fabricated by my colleagues who are carpenters; my first version was hacked together in my garage back in the summer of 2021.

The frame has been painted with multiple layers of Black 3.0, which is the blackest paint available. It was created by a British artist named Stuart Semple who objected to Anish Kapoor's monopoly on VANTAblack. It creates a wonderful deep, matt finish and hence the very dark border around the image!

The ultimate light source mounted in the rear of the frame will most likely consist of either battery powered or plug in addressable and remote control LEDs so that the unit can be switched on and off easily. I still need to make a video for this complete version although I have one of the previous version.

The frame is 22 x 18 inches and around 2.5 inches deep. The image is 16 x 12 inches. The piece is named 'Stardust'.

Regards,

Baruch
