TimeOut

Great post!

I spent a few years hiking most of the trails in the Angeles Nat'l Forest.
The trail that follows the Mount Lowe railway up to the ruins of the Great White City (resort that burned down early last century and was the destination for the rail service) was always a favorite day hike.
The Mt. Lowe railway was an engineering marvel for its day, with one year, more than 200,000 people taking it.
There used to be a series of photographic markers along the way, showing you pictures of what that point on the trail looked like with track and cars.
Hiking it today in warm weather, hard to believe the people back in the day wearing wool suits, hats, etc. going to it.
You also could still still railroad ties and debris down the side of the trails from when they tore it up.
This is one of Pasadena's hidden treasures.

Thanks for sharing it!
