In the North End, I really wanted to try Neptune Oyster. Unfortunately they don't take reservations and the wait was over an hour and a half. We left and went to Legal instead. -MW

. . . although I was able to sneak away last Wednesday for the weekly 3-ball tournament. Didn't do well, though . . . only scored a 4 , twice, and neither time did it do me any good. Scratched twice on the break, too, which is a little unusual.

DRMW, the Oyster House can be a tourist trap, but the "real" Boston experience is to eat at the Oyster Bar. If you like oysters, you can't get them fresher than at the bar. If you order oysters from a table, they're gonna be a little bit old. I'm not a ca... 

I didn't know the restaurant wrapped around all the way to the back so we just gravitated to the booths. Only when I went to the restroom I spotted the bar that is not part of the front bar area. I wanted to eat the oysters as the raw bar look really good... 

I'm impressed. Clam chowder was one of the first meals I tried when I went to Boston for a short stint at Mass. General. Thanks for the memories. Regards, Richard.

The Modern and Mike's cannoli shell are so light and crispy it's amazing how good it tastes. There may be a long line but it's definitely worth waiting for. As for the clam chowder, I was really tempted to get a few orders to go and take it back home! -MW...

Thanks Ming, you brought me back to my grad school days. Legal Seafood was a less of a chain back then (only two locations) but still good. I also remember when Steve's Ice Cream opened up in Somerville and really started the premium ice cream with mix-in... 

We had Lizzy's ice cream when we stopped by Harvard, good stuff! Is there a particular flavor that Steve's is famous for? Agree with you about those small restaurants in North End, I wanted to try each one of them! -MW

I really enjoyed your culinary review of the places that I grew up with (well, Joe's was not around in my earlier years). I've put a lot of time (usually late night) in Chinatown and the North End. Thanks for all of the great pics and I'm looking forward ... 

Boston was fun but I wish I had more time there, had to take care of business and couldn't really predict where I would be. I walked quite a bit of the Freedom Trial but had to turn back to make my scheduled business appointments, I would have enjoyed mor... 

To keep up with demand, Mike's cuts corners and uses frozen cannoli shells. That's no-no! You did the right thing by walking the city. It is meant to be experienced that way and you can take in so much more of the history on foot. The colonial architectur...

I like Cannoli, but love Sfogliatelle. Best I ever had was on the Island of Capri and at Lucibello's Pastry Shop in New Haven, CT ...just a short walk from Pepe's and Sally's Pizza. Next time in Boston I'll be sure to stop by Modern, Mike's and Maria's. T...

Hello Dean, Your pics look really tempting! I ate too much on this trip and after chowing down on the boxes of canolli and pizelle, I couldn't eat any more. I guess the best solution is that I need to go back and try more stuff! Thanks for the recommendat... 

...not as good as Modern Apizza (IMHO). Locals have been fighting over who is the best of the 3 for generations. Dean.
