On my father's side I come from farming stock...
...and have a healthy respect for farmers. My paternal grandparents and my forbears for generations have farmed rice in Thailand. It's backbreaking work, but there is also something special about working your land and the honest sleep after a hard day's work in the fields. I bet your grandfather was a hard worker, and he loved his land. 
You must have many happy childhood memories of your time at his farm.
Yes, Art, is very good about eating his veggies!
