I was thinking the same, some of them do like like palm trees! Appreciate the input. For most of the pics I fired the moment I saw the firework being launched. This is the first time I shot exposures longer than 2 seconds! It was exciting seeing what turns out as you never know what kind of explosions and colors will happen.
Cool you got to see the comet what lens did you use? Certain nights out here we get to see a lot of stars so I after shooting the moon, I thought about doing some astrophotography.
The accident happened out in Simi Valley ( 20+ miles from where I shot from), a 5" mortar round exploded at the ground level and set off some other ones. Luckily no one was fatally hurt.

Many of them looks like floodlit palm trees in a garden. Not easy to get the shots you achieved. A rigid tripod is a must and the shutter speed. Too quick and you don't capture the full " explosion " . Too long an exposure and the burst will be " smeared ...

lens question
I used an old Tamron 200mm. zoom lens with Nikon adapter. The lens is still with me. Cheers,dreamer

Really beautiful photos. I like the ones with different details like sparkles, trails, flairs and they are hard to capture without smearing the details. Fireworks bring out the child in us. Nice. Andrew

Fireworks display
Nice view of the LA area fireworks. The Vegas one was nice too, I didn't have a chance to video it because it's nearly the same as the NYE fireworks. Regards, ED-209
