You may have heard people say, "If only all these people at the wake came to visit him while he was sick to hear how much he was loved!”
When the family learned Tito had terminal cancer with less than a year to live, they started planning for his passing. The soonest they could make it was the Saturday after his first round of chemo which translates to two weeks before the Las Vegas IGOTT-2. Yes, he wanted to go to the big gtg in Las Vegas. This was the biggest thrill for me to hear him say that he wanted to meet all of you and give me the pleasure of meeting ya’ll too!
Anyway, the Saturday of Tito’s wake we had to go to the hospital early in the morning for Tito to get his Neutropenia shot to boost his white blood cells, he was very weak. When we got there, I gave the sealed bag to the nurse and it turned out that the Neutropenia wasn’t in it but rather nausea medicine. Hours passed as the staff worked on locating doctors and figure out what to do. By now all pharmacies that carried the expensive $5000 Neutropenia were closed. Finally Tito’s doctor and the head nurse determined he needed to go to the the ER (they couldn’t let him go without that dose of white blood cells.) He was admitted into the hospital ER where the nurse told us, the cost of the Neutropenia is three times the cost of the pharmacy but he needed it now, so he will get it.
By the time we left the ER it was late in the afternoon. Getting the procedure at the hospital should have taken less than an hour. We were planning on returning home to get ready for Tito's wake but that didn’t happen; we drove straight to the gathering which was at a cousin’s house on the bayou. We were totally exhausted but I couldn't miss Tito's wake and neither should he, since this was a once in a lifetime affair.
Without further ado… I present Tito’s wake.
In loving memory of my Eddie,
Helen
