A repeater purchase considerations
When purchasing a complicated watch, like a repeater, beside the aesthetics which is personal, I usually consider the reliability and serviceability aspects.
Movement with added modules will typically require a shorter time between services. Not only that, but the fact that the modules are usually made by 3rd party, adds a layer of problems to the service costs, extends service time, reduces the number of service points, and the risk of shorter MTBF increases. all in all, they are less reliable. Thats life, and you can experience it with simple speed masters automatics ..
The 2nd point of "serviceability aspects" is the manufacturer and its ability to service.
To sum the 2nd point: UN has been straggling for years to service. There is a reason beside value retention why they are sold 25c on the dollar...,
A typical repeater will cost you 70-100K. It is one thing to spend the money but enjoy a watch regardless of its value retention and spending the money but chasing service point and being stuck for months or more with a broken watch.
Bottom line is that I would hesitate before spending such amount on a watch from a company that is in survival mode. For a similar amount I'd go for one of the great watches manufactured by companies with bad market for the company or line but with thick legs as a company. For the budget you can get a watch from AP, JLC, Chopard L.U.C, IWC etc. all less risky comparing to UN.
