BIG congrats Tony. The VC Malte chrono is one of my favorite pieces for a number of reasons....
I have never owned an 1815 but have owned a 1st gen Datograph twice. I prefer the Malte for comfort AND looks. Everyone always focuses on the architecture and beauty of the Lange movement but for owners of the watch you will see the dial side 95% more often than the movement side, this coming from a movement snob 😁😉
I also own a Patek 5070G, a couple Duometres, and several other high end chronos. Besides the Duometres which are my absolute favorite high end chronographs (simple chrono, not rattrapante), the Malte would be next, even above the 5070G. I just love the Malte dial and prefer the case and lugs more than the 5070.
As for value and future value, that makes no difference to me at all. If I wanted something to gain in value, I would not waste my time with watches, LOL. Bitcoin, ethereum, etc...would make watch values and future potential just look silly.
If you have never owned a 5070 Tony, I would highly recommend one. Not because it is more collectible, but because it is just a beautiful watch 😉👍

If I were considering a Lange chronograph or a VC one, which would you recommend? What are the strengths of each? The Lange seems to have slightly better finishing and a better pusher feel. But the Lange also seems to be much thicker.

To my eye the finishing is pretty close, Lange's movement is definitely more interesting though. The Lange's chrono function is smoother as well but it's also more of a pain in the butt to wind because of its smallish crown. The thickness between the two ...

I was expecting the Vacheron to be thinner. I guess that's not necessarily the case! I have a feeling that anything sold ten years ago would probably be a bit of a tricky situation today! Thank you so much for the advice TonyR! And great to see your post!...
Here is a shot of the Datograph, 1815 Chrono, & Malte Chrono stacked.....
The VC is on the bottom the Datograph is on the top. As you can see the VC and 1815 Chrono are about the same thickness. The VC actually appears to be a little thicker than the 1815 Chrono....... Then the obligatory shot of all three!....... I hope that's...

Hi Patrick. I've owned the 1st gen Datograph twice and still own the VC Malte chrono so here are my thoughts...
Don't know if you have ever owned a Datograph (1st or 2nd gen). If not, I would suggest you try one on as for some, including myself, it does not wear as comfortably as any of the VC chronos (Les Historiques, Malte, La Traditionnelle, Corne de Vache, etc....

Agreed on the difficulty of trying them on in this environment but go one step further if you can and locate both in the same place to do a side by side comparison...

Are not as appealing to me because the lug size is so large. VC did a great job at making the size of these lugs on this particular model just about right.

In the end you have to get very lucky but I'll still try! That is interesting point of view on the Duometre, I really like the 1st white gold version that they released in the series. I'll have to put that one on my list to own one day as well. Your right...
There are many here on WPS who are advocates for the Duometre Chronograph, Nico and I are among them...
I cannot recommend the Duometre line enough. If any of the Duometres had an AP, Lange, Patek, VC, etc...logo on them, they would be double the price 🤷♂️ Here are my 2 Duometre Chronographs (PT and WG) so you can see the differences 😉 ...

I thought it didn't have AR coating which would be somewhat of a turn off.
I like all 3 of my Duometres but tend to wear the WG black dial more as I find it more sporty and casual since I switched out the strap 😉😁
Thinking about doing the same for the Malte chrono as well as it is now on an OEM blue gator. Maybe a custom tanned nubuck gator like on my Duometre Chronograph in PT or WG. Just need to decide on color and tone to match the dial and hands. Or maybe I can...
