Everything must align...
I understand the simplicity of loving a watch despite resale or liquidity. I do have one watch in my tiny collection that will merely get my money back on (with no profit) also would take quite a while to sell as it's not particularly popular... but I love it. If someone only wanted financial certainty (at least in the short term) they'd only acquire hot sport watches in stainless steel at the AD for guaranteed equity.
Along with love of a watch and its mechanical and artistic complexity... I believe resale considerations should be included in the decision to acquire a certain piece. I don't have enough money to NOT ensure all of those aspects are met. At the very least I'd want to be able to get my money back on it if I wanted to sell it. It takes me 5-8 years in between purchases to make sure everything aligns and the acquisition makes sense on all levels.
Best,
Robert
