Steel Hodinkee or Platinum?
Two versions of the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 (both measuring 38.5 x 10.9 mm and powered by caliber 1142):
- Steel Hodinkee Edition ref. 5000H/000A with Pulsometer scale (2017)
- Platinum ref. 5000H/000P-B058 with Tachymeter scale (2015)
I personally prefer the platinum version for two reasons:
- First, I love the blue tachymeter scale, which is also found on my rose gold version. It's one of the reasons I decided to buy the rose gold version rather than the steel one, despite the significant price difference.
- Second, the pulsometer scale has always made me feel a little uneasy because it evokes health and the medical world, and that's not something I personally want to wear on my wrist. Furthermore, I find it less aesthetically pleasing than the tachymeter scale with the words “GRADUATED FOR 30 PULSATIONS” taking a lot of space.

I completely agree, Filip; the way we react to the pulsometer scale depends entirely on what we associate it with, on the imagery it evokes for us.

Unless the platinum is to much heavier, that's the one I'd prefer.
If I want to find out a pulse using just 30 counts, I can divide the tachometer reading by two. I think the blue tachometer scale really pops in a positive way.

The PT version is very appealing, and I have not handled the Hodinkee version but that color is quite special and uncommon.

But would probably go with steel due to the lighter weight 🤷🏻♂️ As for Pulsometer, aesthetics aside I find it a lot more likely to use than a Tachymeter scale 😉👍🏻

Platinum case, darker dial with Tachymeter for me. Luckily I have a 38mm GP with similar vibes for a fraction of the price!! ...

Original platinum is still my favorite...
though your rose gold threatens it! Interesting for me to realize, with time, that the hodinkee is actually my least favorite. I'd prefer the regular steel version over it, and both the precious metal versions over the steel--like you I really think this ...
Absolutely! I was very tempted by the steel,
but needed the warmth of RG and the blue scale... 🤷🏽♂️
I’m not fond of this edition either.
