the size is really nice. I don't mind bigger watches but this has a special balance/proportions.

The VC 1003 is a fantastic acheivement.

What a beautiful timepiece you got there. I would wear it frequently as well, with a matte brown alligator strap it will go well with a lot of outfits.

Thanks for sharing. If I had to choose one word to describe this watch it would be “elegant” I agree it’s not just a dress watch. If one wears smart casual to a restaurant this watch is perfect. And can think of a million occasions like that one By the wa... 

of course smart casual is fine but -- to my surprise -- I have seen really sloppy outfits even for senior executives. I like to always be dressed right and I feel that there is indeed an advantage. Looking the part is very important.

Now, as a comparison a patrimony from Vacheron would be 6.79 mm, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5196R 7,68 mm. When I bought this I already had a Calatrava 5127 in white gold (that they don't make any more) which is around 9mm. I only buy new watches so the...

It is not theire manual 5196. The Ellipse is just under 6 mm, 5.79 or something.

The 3738 is a keeper in any metal. I read somewhere that the popularity of the Ellipse has risen. I checked on chrono24 the offerings and yes, much fewer offerings than a few years ago. Your 1955 is one of the most desirable manual time only for me.

That once still haunts my dreams. One day, perhaps... ...

I did wear this watch at home in pyjama even so may be goes with any home outfit

It is understated and beautiful. The mechanism is exquisite. Yes it could be an everyday watch too. I hope you wear it more often.

lots of vintage vachelor have the same spirit of this historique edition (perhaps at a much better price)

But ended up with the Patek 5227, which is very similar but thicker. I loved the movement and the design but ultimately wanted a date and a modern movement. Great to hear that you made the right decision as i must agree - your watch is really so special!

and I am also with you regarding the date that is always a great addition. I would say the 5227 is a bit more versatile may be !

That's what a dress watch should be, period.

strategy wise (although this community is not about pricing) I suggest always an AD were best deals (especially for pieces that are not so quick to move like this one) are possible.

I would like to get one as my daily but the >2mm movement gives me reliability concerns for everyday use. I'm afraid the gears wouldn't last as long as a thicker movement (with thicker components) would. Would love to hear your experience with the watch a... 

I found the corne de vache a much better daily watch both in terms of look and feel (too thin is not always a great feeling) and reliability.

it wasn't my daily watch but I think when I didn't wear it sometimes it had a bit of an issue to start but overall never had to service it.
