For nearly a decade, I have had romantic notions of embarking on the quest to find an appropriate birth year watch. At long last... I think I can put an end to this. The year in question is 1984 -- and since my interest in watches started from the Submari...  

My birth year as well, so I am massively biased coming into this conversation . What a phenomenal piece from VC, I couldn't imagine a better choice myself.... And yes, I totally agree with you that the sublime skeletonized version would truly be a grail f...

Definitely a sucker for a nice VC. Birth year is intriguing, I had wanted a birth year porsche 930 but not sure I want the hassle of an old turbo 🤷‍♂️

VC 43032 belongs to a friend; had the good fortune of trying it on Q3 last year. It cemented my opinion that it wore a little bit better than the AP 25657/8 which has shorter lugs). I don't really drink wine, so that would be wasted on me, but cars... I l... 

I see you like McLaren. All I can say is that I really like the Lamborghini Huracan - so easy to drive, so reliable, and thrilling sound. As for cars - not a lot of cars I'd want from 1984 personally. Ferrari Testarossa? A Lamborghini Countach is probably... 

...but I'm a romantic and there's charm with older cars. In 1984, it would be the era of Porsche's 930 so for me... 911 Turbo Flachbau.

Yes, the 930 era is very nice. Although rear engined cars are definitely tricky to drive sometime. I still don't know how to drive them properly, and when someone shows me how to take a corner, I still have that instinct that he's stepping on the gas way ... 

And then to find one that is so exquisite. Congratulations.

And yes the skeletonized version is phenomenal, even the one from AP is fantastic! ...  

Why should somebody want a 1984 car? The only cars i want from 1984 are Honda’s, but i like from any year Honda’s. More bad, nineties cars. Which i like are from 2001 till today. Older cars are more separate over the years, like a BMW 5 series from 1987, ... 

...but hey, you do you!

An unorthodox choice, given what I currently have in the watchbox, but I am very glad I made this step!

given ref first released by VC late 83 i think finding any platinum version 43031 or 43032 from 84 going to be a big challenge given such as small proportion of production back then. most complications in 80s even really until mid to late 90s people wante...
