A museum Imperial Japanese Navy Reconnaissance Weems

In the 1930s-1940s, The Weems Celestial Navigation and the Weems watch was vital for long range navigation over open water. Radio Beacon navigation like Loran and Oboe did not exist until late in the War.


The British, French, and Americans wanted to strengthen the Imperial Navy/Army Air Services to combat the Germans and Russians during WW1 and Interwar era. The Japanese were allied with the British and French in WW1 so the modernization of the largest air forces in the in the world made sense.
