an oriental beauty for me.
this is my latest aquisition to go in the 'oriental' themed section. its an Orient star 'somes'. i've wanted one for a long time due to the beautiful brown dial. it was released in partnership with Somes who are Japans biggest equestrian leather makers hence the fabulous strap. SJX did a feature on this model a few months ago which reminded me how much i liked it, but there was always something else in the way of me getting one until i found one basically unworn, but you guessed it 'cheap as chips'. first impressions are excellent. lovely polished and brushed 43mm cushion case, a decent auto movement which appears to be unbelievably accurate. i've been wearing it since tuesday morning and its only gained 1 second!!!!! the dial is sublime, a lovely milk chocolate colour. no AR coating so very hard to photograph. good lume. 100m WR, display back which to be honest isnt really nessesary. very good finish all over which puts some bigger brands to shame.

Hi Art, Well I suppose there is a story, but in many ways the “charms of vintage Rolex”, as you say, are apparent in the picture I posted. Namely the wonderful plexiglass that bends and morphs the dial when viewed at different angles and the creamy butter...
