Forgot to mention his watch..
… or lack of watches. Dad was never really a watch guy. We clubbed together one Xmas and got him a Seiko Sports 100 which he tended to only wear on special occasions. I have no photos of him wearing it and no idea what happened to it, but it’s the same as below.

. . . but didn't know my great-grandfather was a watchmaker until my early thirties. So yes, I believe the passion was passed on from one generation to the next - with two missing steps in-between! 👴🏻

I'm in the dark about the symbols; they might be Arabic numerals . . .
. . . but doubtful. I'll check with someone who knows the Arabic language.
