Jean-Antoine Lépine ( Horloger du Roi ) was the greatest revolutionary inventor of watches in history in my firm opinion. He was the grandfather of all modern mechanical watches as was Thomas Edison was father of all light bulbs. Watches had been the same clock mechanism for 300 years prior. After the Lépine movement, it would take another 100 years for the Swiss to surpass Paris.
