please correct me if i'm wrong, but that looks
like a 218 calibre tuning fork to me. i have owned a fair number of tuning
forks in my time(about 40) and i didnt think the 214 ever had a date on it.
the 214 was also adjusted from the back as in the 214 Alpha i've attached. i
cant read the letter and number on the back which indicates the year. it looks
like M8 which indicates 1968, but i cant be sure.

Hi Art, Well I suppose there is a story, but in many ways the “charms of vintage Rolex”, as you say, are apparent in the picture I posted. Namely the wonderful plexiglass that bends and morphs the dial when viewed at different angles and the creamy butter...
