Vintage...

It started 12-13 yrs ago with a 60’s Omega Seamaster.  Everything was original, the black dial, gold markers, gold hands, the buckle….. After about 5 years of ownership, I sold it to a friend who bugged me incessantly.  It was a bad decision and it “pains” me whenever I see the watch on my friend’s wrist. However, I am going to right the wrong soon with one coming in.

Last year, I started reading about vintage Rolex (so much info on PP) and I was captivated by the charm and the very peculiar attractiveness of the GMT which age so well over the past decades.

And within a few months, I got myself a 16750, 1675 and a comparatively modern 16710 - all pepsi.  In between I managed to find time for a 5513 too. I am wary of the minefield of vintage fakes, frankens, and prices that make my hands tremble for essentially a very simple old watch with an equally simple movement. However, the desire is still burning for another 1675.

In my search for the 1675 recently, I chanced upon the quirky JLC E861 totally unplanned. I was eagerly waiting for the arrival and it did not disappoint.  I am still reading about the E861 and it is my 2nd JLC. The first was a Reverso Sun Moon I got back in early 2000 which one day will be a fine vintage.

When it comes to vintage watch collecting, It is a long meandering path with surprising discoveries.

Have a good weekend,
SF
