The ying & yang of the Zenith Extra Special Bronze...
first, a very warm welcome here; second, congratulations to your new Zenith Extra Special Bronze - it is one of the highlights of all watches presented last year, and this not only for me.
As to the discolouration around the lugs. Now, the case is pre-patniased by Zenith which is a manual process, thereby adding an individual personality to each single watch. I have seen many variations of the darker areas. The one I recently tried was essentially the yang to your ying, it had a brighter area around the lugs with a darker frame, plus its lug sides were dark like the bezel (while yours appear bright):
The bronze makes every piece to stand out. But I have seen one which looks very similar to yours!

I love the bronze... its an amazing watch! As Magnus has said the patina look on the case it is a manual process done by Zenith so each one is different and unique! I think it is then coated to stop the patina process from getting any stronger... I maybe ...

I did...
I simply liked the replacement watch better, recognizing it will change over time. All my other watches are tool watches, so the Pilot is very different - very warm and just very balanced.

One More Thing...
I've had the watch for 2.5 days and I set it to the atomic time clock when I received it…Amazingly, it is still spot-on! I know 2 days does not a test make; however, I'm (pleasantly) surprised!
