Underrated?
When I first reviewed the 250th anniversary Type XX ref. 2075, I had a preference for the black variant.
However, the decoration of the 3/4 bridge, which is common to both models, still leaves me perplexed...
Nice faceted lugs...
One positive thing that also deserves to be noted is that the seconds scale is correctly graduated for the 5 Hz movement.

And in his review of both models (black and silver), amanico also expressed his preference for the black dial version.
But when I finally got the chance to try on the black dial version, I was very disappointed, as I wrote in my hands-on experience...
And now, seeing these photos of the silver version (ref. 2075BH/G9/398), I wonder if it isn't actually the better of the two...
I have never seen it in person yet, but I find it interesting and appealing.

- Especially, I like the sword hands more than the syringe ones.
- I also find the lumed seconds hands very well done.
- Lastly, I like the way the sub counters have a similar size (no big eye here, nor cut 2 and 4!), but contrasting designs and finishes.

Based on pictures…
The silver dial is a winner. The mismatched subdials and the flat dull dial make the black one come in second for me. I think the silver dial and hands go very well with the breguet gold.
Full agreement. This silver version has both a sense of refinement and excitement at the same time.
The movement decoration is an unfortunate detail, but I don't think it would stop me if I were in the market for this watch.

I like the details you pointed out.
Breguet’s releases last year reinvigorated my interest in this lovely brand, particularly the past catalogues.
Not for me - I definitely prefer the black version. By far!
However, this is only based on pictures, I did not see it myself in real. It is clear, with a case in gold, it must be a dress watch, black or silver. A tool watch is never gold! So I accept, that it looks like that, although having the spirit of the tool watch.
The silver one looks somehow average, so “me too”. It loses the soul of a Type XX design. Just my two cents…

All I can say is that I didn't like the black dial variant when I had the chance to try it on, even though I expected to like it.
But I know I'm not really into pilot watches anyway. It might be the reason why I end up being more attracted to the silver version.
Just a matter of taste and preference...

Thank you for this. I wish the time hands were blued (or whatever the other hand are) to improve readability.
Also, it's not the tachymeter scale that you were referring to, but the outer seconds scale. The tachymeter scale is further out and doesn't line up with the subseconds.

Readability seems good enough for me, but I'd have to see the watch in real life.

On pictures a lot of the elements you me toon seem appealing but finally I would need to check it out on the wrist. It does attempt to take the line upmarket and I am not sure this is what Breguet needs 🤷🏻♂️

I completely understand your point of view.
It makes total sense.
At least, this silver dial variant is clearly a dress watch even if it’s called Type XX. In this respect I find it more coherent than the black dial version, which should be a true tool watch, but isn’t one.

Well, not bad, but the dial design is weird, with such a strongly vintage inspired case. The black dial is closer and more consistent.

It's a dressier version, which leaves aside the idea of the true tool/pilot watch.
I like it, but I can understand those who feel it is unfaithful to the Type XX DNA.

The big plate hiding the movement is such a let down
The little art on it doesn't cut it for me.
I feel like you about the movement.
And I find the “little art” as you call it far too anecdotal.
As a fan of the Type XX / XXI it feels like the gold editions miss the target
Of course they are absolutely fantastic watches, and time will prove their value, but because the two recent Only Watch piece unique Breguet produced are so close to the ideal, until they make something similar available to a wider market at lot of the modern Type XX are going to feel a little 'close but not quite'. I own the 3817 and it's far removed from the Only Watch references I mentioned aesthetically and technically, so I would welcome the simpler homages, follow watches long enough and you end up seeing exactly what you want materialize, maybe this year...
