I've had my heart set on a XX / XXl as my next watch. Unfortunately I've only been able to try on a XXl, and felt this was a bit big on my skinny wrist. I loved the look but the size didn't look/feel right. This is a bit odd as I have a 42mm JLC Amvox 1,Reverso Squadra and IWC Portuguese that all wear big, and I think they look fine on me.

I am therefore looking at possibly an XX, as i've read 'somewhere' that it actually wears 'big' for its size- can anyone confirm this??

Secondly, how does an XX compare to an IWC Pilot 3706 in terms of quality / size?? - I find this watch wears very small. Whilst I love the look of my 3706, I tend to overlook it for other watches I have. I also feel an XX would be a more versatile watch - casual or good with a suit. I therefore may offload this or a Omega Planet Ocean with Orange bezel to help fund the XX - any opinions on this??

I personally can wear all the Type XX and XXI watches; and I have a tiny 6 inch circumference wrist.

I wore the Lady's Type XX on a bracelet and it looked great on me, perfect classic size.

I tried on the Men's Type XX on a strap in steel and on a bracelet in titanium, and they both worked extremely well. The strap worked better.

The Extra Large Type XXI, I tried with a strap and can only wear it on a strap. It didn't fit perfectly, but it didn't overwhelm the wrist. I feel the watch would've fit perfectly if I had a short strap or one that had been broken in and could curve more.

Sorry for not having answered you before, but now I'm back home.

I would strongly recommend the Type XX.

Like you, the Type XXI is too big for me, and  the 39 mm of the type XX look perfect on the wrist.

Sporty, but also dressy, this watch can be worn in every occasion.

i tried both the type XX and the XXI several times. I have a relativ small wrist but both the the bigger XXI and the XX look fine on my wrist.

However i feel that the 39 mm XX is the better choice to me - it is big enough and yet it looks classy and classic while i felt the XXI is just here to suit the current taste for larger watches. I also could not get used to the brown dial. It looks phantastic in the catalogue, but in daylight the dial seems rather light brown than dark "chocolate" brown. While i could think of many watches that look great and classy with a chocolate brown dial, it seems out of place to me on a classic pilot watch like the type XX; at least in combination with a steel case.  When i saw the type XXI the first time a few years back i tought i am going to wait until it is available with a black dial but Breguet seems tnot be in a hurry...

I just ordered the XX transatlantique on a bracelet and i am extremely confident that this is a watch i am going to wear for many years.

Go for whatever your gut feeling tells you. Looking forward to hear about your decision.
