This Lange 1 was my dreamwatch when I entered this great hobby of ours after 10 years of abstinence 


Practice shows I’m wearing it much too rarely. In fact I’ve worn it in my 3 years of ownership probably not more than 10 weeks. I never sold one of my watches, always stuck to them, but somehow I just can’t let this piece collect “dust” in it’s safe. I’m contemplating buying a PP 5235/50R (annual calender regulator style) but feel a bit guilty of betraying my Lange 1. Sounds silly, I know, but perhaps at least of few of my fellow members know the feeling. Should I buy the PP and trade in the Lange?

I don’t have a collection, only watches I like and have opportunity to wear.

It feels like a divorce nevertheless.

Too precious? Too dressy? Too important since it is a grail?

Because of the movement, the story of it being build together twice, the mathematical logic of it’s dial. Not too dressy, too precious or it being a grail (feeling of the latter was gone in weeks, by the way). If I’ll miss it, I don’t know. I don’t think so, but that’s something only time will tell.

Understanding why it was in the safe is indeed what it’s all about here. The thing is, I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s a combination of it being too serene, too cold perhaps, the actual time telling dial (hours and minutes) being too small. The watch and I just don’t seem to get warm. That’s why I think I’ll be wearing the 5235, it’s warmer, friendlier to my eyes and I’m very fond of the annual calendar complication.

... you're someone who habitually buys the same watch for a 2nd or 3rd time later and regrets selling it the first time. There are definitely some of those people out there! That doesn't sound like you, though, so it makes sense to part company ... and then see if absence makes the heart grow fonder!

That watch will not miss you. Move it on to get something that you will wear often and enjoy.

I just might. I’m in sort of denial mode, but I’ll get there 😉

Reason for not wearing it more often?

The reasons why I’m not wearing it more often, I’ve tried to explain above. I’m an office guy, meaning I can wear dress watches 5 days a week. I tend to wear ever whatever I like, whenever I like. I’ve worn my Lange 1 with suits and jeans and T-shirt. If I’d buy the PP, I’d be wearing it just like that: in the office but in weekends as well. Not during sports, swimming or activities like that. For those occasions I’ve got other watches.

Why are you parting with your Lange 1, can put your finger on it? Have you also got a replacement in mind and if so, which one.

keep it for the time being and just add the new one. Then let the honeymoon period with the new one pass and then see how you feel ...

You'll either fall back in love, and appreciate why you bought and own it, or you'll know it's time to move on.
