Hi I have just completed my first month with the new white gold Odysseus. I bought two leather straps from Lange and I have the rubber it came with. I have to say I prefer the brown leather one the best. The rubber one is interesting, but it doesn’t hold the weight of the watch that well. It’s also a little incongruous with the brand. Just feels more Lange on the leather. I love how legible the dial is and how easy it is to adjust the date with the hidden pushers. The lume is much better than expected and you can clearly read the time in low light. It doesn’t feel as sporty as my 5164 aquanaut, I think because it is substantially heavier and thicker. The finishing is really well done and the movement side is a cut above AP and PP in my humble opinion ( but I know beauty is entirely subjective). One thing I like is that this is not an easily recognized watch. It’s not on the bracket so no one is confusing it for a nautilus or royal oak. It is clearly Lange DNA, but highly shockproof and waterproof making it a good daily wearer. My only peeve is that the strap is supposed to be quick change, but you need to change the buckle with each strap and that is white gold and easily scratched. I wish they had taking a leaf out of the Overseas handbook and created a genuinely easy strap change. This is just a humble user review, my horological knowledge is entirely amateur compared to the many experts on this wonderful board. But would love to hear from owners and prospective owners your views on this wonderful watch.

Seems like you're very satisfied but not ecstatic?  It hit all your objective criteria but I don't sense a tremendous amount of excitement?  I especially liked your review when it mentioned comfort and how the rubber strap didn't hold the weight of the watch well.  These are things that are only noticed when someone has worn the watch for a period of time - but also not too long (when you wear it too long you get used to it and it doesn't bother you anymore).  Thank you for this review and always a pleasure to read your posts!  

Don’t own myself, but do own an 1815. Kudos to Lange for dipping their toe into the sport watch end of the pool. It’s a bold move. Still trying to warm to the Odysseus, after looking at the brands more conservative, less sporty models for years. Hope you enjoy it, congrats!

Would you know if the rubber and leather strap can be fitted with an A Lange folding deployant buckle? 

and i love it. i don't understand why there is not more love for it, it is absolutely on equal footing to PP sports watches like aquanauts.

There are a few reasons behind the relative lack of love for the Odysseus. One is that the overall Odysseus design aesthetic didn't "wow" a lot of people. Another is that a lot of people weren't looking for Lange to make a steel "sports" watch in the first place. And finally a lot of people have negative associations to the Odysseus because of the sales limitations and bundling requirement especially for the steel model. I think it's a combination of those three things, largely. But of course, none of those things should matter when you have a watch on your wrist that makes you smile!!

...definitely spot on. however, IMHO most critique points that were raised with respect to the steel odysseus do not at all apply to the white gold version. but when the latter appeared the balloon was already deflated. i also dislike a. lange bundling practices but at least they say it openly. instead PP does it through ADs, that try to push you into buying undesired models, jewelry etc. before they give you a PP sports model. and about AP we all know anyway......
for me the odysseus WG model wears nicely and exudes a level of quality that is hard to find elsewhere in a sporty/elegant watch.
