Chinese New Year celebration for Singapore Lange collectors
This evening I had the good fortune to be invited by Lange Singapore, together with other Lange collectors here, for a Chinese New Year celebration. Today is also the 7th day of the Lunar New Year and to all Chinese, it is also our birthdays
It was another evening of great fun, friendship, sharing and food
Many PuristS from Singapore attended this event too - always a pleasure to catch up with them in person
Some pics here to share the event with fellow PuristS here. Warning - many foodie shots are shared here. Lange Singapore cleverly chose many delicious dishes for us tonight that are also very healthy. It's good to have such healthy food after all the snacks we took during the Chinese New Year celebrations the past few days. We even have detox food like Beetroot!
I tried to take some nice shots of watches from fellow collectors to share too. Lighting wasn't the best so apologies for some of the pics.
Finally, I would like to wish all Chinese PuristS a happy birthday! May all of you have a blessed Ren Re (day of man)!

Dinner started quite on time - we took a break looking at each others Langes
A very unique Lo Hei (Cantonese for Toss Up) - a special Chinese New Year dish for good fortune
This Lo Hei is very special with 3 kinds of sashimi as well as organic vegetables - very healthy!

Japanese tomatoes. Another healthy dish. Lange sure wants us to be healthy tonight - a good start to the year !
Crab meat and roe in eggplant. It was delicious!
The crab meat is hot within the eggplant. Very creative presentation
King scallops in beetroot soup. Another very healthy dish! We have a saying "health equals wealth". Lange Singapore clearly wants us all to be healthy in the year of the goat so we have the money to buy more Langes lol!!
Prawn with egg white. Yummy !! Not oily or salty at all. Another healthy dish tonight

There's a lot going on!
I like the excitement shown in the Loh Hei; tried it a few times myself and a firm favourite of mine.
A class act as usual with exquisite pieces thrown in for good measure. Can't beat a Lange GTG.

One question - if you could only own one Lange, and you wanted it to represent what Lange does best relative to other brands, which model would you choose? A little background to my question - I'm trying to decide between the Chronograph and the Lange 1. Heads up, I think I prefer the Chrono (and of course Dato) models more, but when considering "what Lange does best relative to other brands" I lean towards Lange 1, due to it's unique design and historical importance and stiff competition from VC and PP. Sorry for all the parameters to the question, but thoughts on owning one Lange over another, given finite resources, would be interesting for me to hear.

This is a very good question. I started with my first Lange being a Dato for I just love it too much. However I do agree that a Lange 1 is arguably the most iconic Lange and hence I got a Lange 1 later.
If I could only choose one, it would be the one I like more between the two to be honest, regardless of which is more iconic.
For me I would choose the Dato if I must have only one choice

My approach to collecting is to limit myself to one watch per brand, and to have that one watch be the brand's relatively strongest model compared to all other watch brands' offerings. The struggle is real, because sometimes I prefer a brand's model that may not be their relative strongest watch - so for eg., the Chronos from Lange are amazing, I love them, but they have very strong competition from VC and PP, whereas the Lange 1 seems to me to be their relatively strongest offering. It's a maddening philosophy to follow, but also great fun trying to come to terms with a brand's best in show compared to all other watches worldwide. Sometimes, it's almost impossible to decide (Rolex for example, GMT or Daytona???).
So here are my thoughts... constantly changing...
PP: Calatrava
VC: Chrono
L&S: Lange 1
AP: Royal Oak
JLC: Reverso
Breitling: Navitimer
Tudor: Submariner
Cartier: Tank
Casio: Gshock
Rolex: GMT or Daytona, I'm leaning towards GMT...
Seiko: GS... I think... I'm still undecided here...
Breguet: something skeleton! Undecided what...
etc etc
Of course, this means I leave out soooo many amazing models, but the end product should produce the most relatively well-rounded collection, the idea of which I like. We find this kind of philosophy is many social sciences, and even natural sciences, like comparative advantage, or competitive advantage. Lets see where this leads in terms of watches

I agree and came close to picking up new platinum Up/Down
