A. Lange & Söhne

Let's have some painful fun, and try to choose between these 2 beauties, the 1815 Moonphase E.Lange, or the Langematik Annivesary.

To me, these are the two most desirable Lange ever made, which combinate very well together since one is manual, the 1815, an the other is automatic, the Anniversary.

One enamel, one extra accurate moonphase, two platinum cases, 35, 9 mm ( The 1815 ) or 37 mm ( The Anniversary ).

Both extremely charming. Both tough to find, even if the Anniversary has been produced in bigger numbers ( 500 versus 150 ).

Now comes the Torquemada's game... If you had to choose only one, which one would it be?

both are mandatory!  But the Emil wins by a mile. The black dial is magnificent with its markers.  It is a really unique dial watch. I have nothing else like it. The anniversary, while enamel, and the unique red 12 make it desirable, but there are other enamel dial watches with sub seconds at six. So, for a totally unique piece, very limited, with such high quality finish, the Emil takes the prize. 

Both sums in a nice way Lange's Talent in watchmaking.

They also belong to a bygone era... Which is a tad sad.

.... The combination of the enamel dial, blue hands, and of course the 'bleeding' XII makes the Anniversary a breathtaking icon.

If you have the Emil, you will need to have the Anniversary and vice versa. If you have neither, start with one and patiently wait for the other.

I would like to have both at the same time to avoid any conflict - in my dreams.

I would love both, if I can only have one it would be the Langematik. The movement may be the nicest looking auto ever made in my opinion. Tough to pass up on that whole package.

but a automatic ALS is something that I will own some day I guess.

The Anniversary would have won with a strong margin... Due to its bigger case.

I am very interested to see that mentalities are changing.

At the risk of being thought of as iconoclast, I would say Grosse Langematik Gangreserve, because I have difficulty in putting small diameters.

Some years ago, the Anniversary was the clear winner due to its extra millimeter.

Handwind vs Automatic, Complicated vs non Complicated, Enamel dial for one... two of the best LE from Lange for sure but I have a big problem to put them side by side.

So any serious collector would say: both...

Although the Langematik is truly a watchmaker's watch, the starry narrative of the Emil Lange is just so powerful to me. Thanks for showing these, Nicolas.

...with your Emil posts! The Langematik is a beauty indeed...but there is something even more special going on with the Emil IMO.

Just at the very precise moment that I finally reach a decision after long hesitation...

Because choosing is renouncing and if you can't have all then you have to choose...

So I had finally reach that point where I could press the GO button and...

ARRRGH ! you come now and torture me with this delicious elgant refined 1815 Moonphase that has haunted me so long.

Of course the Langematik Anniversary is the perfect ALS in a way but I don't know why to my eyes its beauty lacks originality in spite of its perfection (IMVHO).

But as for the 1815 Moonphase Pt I am simply in love because its charm and original beauty surpasses any other.

Between these two at least I made my choice ;-)
