Montblanc

Yes, entry level to be sure, but this one literally showed up at my door and I couldn't resist.
Funny, because I have been thinking about this brand for a few years now, attended events at their boutique, met and talked with the watchmaker, but always had been on the periphery.
Star Gilt Large Automatic. Perfect size for my wrist at 36mm. Love the the raised Arabic numerals and large onion crown which appeal to my vintage sensibilities.
I see this as a stepping stone to a Villeret...
Do have a question - Does MB use a modified ETA movement for this, or another?

I love the dial with breguet numbers.  Very nice size, too.
Sorry, I am not familiar with the movement and I beg to differ to Mike when he is back...  But it seems original...  I have been wrong many times in my life

Congrats again!  That is one handsome watch I would love to own, too!  36mm size and the numeral are my favorite point.  Post more pics!

Gold on black is always a winning combination and this is nicely executed. Nice seconds hand with the MB star.

..wouldn't have been my first choice, but as it literally came to my door, I have been deeply impressed with the fit and finish.
A new MB strap was fitted and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I truly think it came to me because I had visualized MB for so long.
Some might avoid this for it's gold tone (not solid gold) case and thinking that one can only wear it for "dressy" occasions, but I wear ALL my watches happily with jeans and casual attire, as well as wear my dressier watches (black dial and gold numbers might qualify) specifically suited to more formal (or business) attire. One can have much freedom if one chooses it, and it all can look good (and right).

I had the case opened by my watchmaker (required real skill to open properly) to determine condition, but the movement looked great and was running to within fairly acceptable numbers. Just waiting for the experts to chime in to give a bit more background about the movement used and what MB has done to it.

Movement used is a classic ETA, I believe it is a 2892-A2 here and they did nothing special on it. But it is reliable one.

On the other hand, its winding efficiency is not top so I suggest you to wind the watch with crown every 2/3 days.

The watch winds like butter. Any watch I wear repeatedly gets wound daily just to keep power reserve up.

Elaborated, top and chronometer. I think that here you will have a top one.

...but though that was determined by the brand buying the base movement and modifying it themselves.
I did have the caseback off but wasn't paying too much attention, especially with the rotor in the way. The rotor was signed and the rest looked typical to most 2892 movement pix.

This is such an elegant classic dress-watch, I'm so glad you got it!

When you get the Villeret, I'm sure MrsSnak would love to wear this watch (that is, if she isn't already scheduling which days of the week she gets to wear this Montblanc already). Hope you have got a black pen with gold trim to complete the look!

 I'm Also fond of the numerals, and the guilloché Dial around the montblanc star.

Elegant and simple watch with some nice details :  the engraved side case with Meisterstuck and the "onion" crown with the montblanc logo

It is funny how often I hear :

Usually from pen owners who wanted to match their collection.  Then they get pulled into another vortex of collecting

It is good to know that MB is now manufacturing watches of all price ranges which are worthy of any watch collector's treasure trove.
