Spotted: Vehicles that make America Great

With election thoughts on my mind, and lots of recent photographs on the screen in front of me, I thought it would be worth assembling a non-partisan, pictorial essay on some of the factors that make America a great place. From a truck guy’s point of view.

[A friend commented recently that these spontaneous assemblages are "performance art"  I don't know about that, but let's see how it goes]

Today I am only going to use pictures taken on Election Day and this morning after, of only Red White and Blue American trucks.  We start with a Bright Red Blazer

Unfortunately the driveway was not long enough to get a white truck in the middle. But he did park this cool blue truck there, giving me the Red White Blue idea. (I didn't promise I'd get all three colors in each photo)

I believe this old Dodge was the first to fit the big Cummins Diesel and it has a red stripe across the back of its neck:

It’s got a diesel engine based on one in a Semi, and what red-blooded, lower/middle/upper-class American guy doesn’t want a “big rig” in a manageable package.

We've got mostly red and almost white in this jacked-up Jeep. Jeeps can go almost anywhere,

So why not lift it a bit higher and claim you can go everywhere?

One thing these trucks convey is optimism

If there's a job to do, we can do it. A mountain to climb? We can climb it. A neighbor's truck to overshadow? No problem. We can look better, ride higher ...

Fly the flag higher. Drink more beer (notice the license plate).

Got a boat to tow? We can drag it (no matter how long the load is - is that trailer legal?)

Red white and blue of the day at the bay

These trucks also tend to exhibit a cowboy-ish, wild-west, devil-may-care attitude. Silly rules about conventional headlights?

Those rules are for cars. We ignore them.

Conservative? Yes, in some regards, we are, with a midsize Ford, but then we can also be liberal in other ways.

as shown by tuck 'n roll upholstery, Hawaiian hula girl on dash, flames, mag wheels, etc.

We are not afraid to cherish the old

We are not willing to throw everything away to embrace the future.

We believe we can have both at the same time … taking some care to keep the past going longer, looking better.

We have more than a slight interest in affairs outside the USA, even if it seems like only lip service at times. Such as this “International”.

(ignore that foreign car; at least it’s blue)

But we are definitely competitive. If yours is low, we'll go lower.

If yours is high, ours will be higher.

If yours is huge, then dammit, we'll get two.

TWO!

Sometimes we can be deceptively casual -- this driveway says "I have a cool old truck - check it out"

But behind the fence we're mumbling with intense passion "That ain't *&(*%$ nothin' -- check out my real ride!"

Ah America; I've lived here and overseas, visited 50 countries, some are appealing, sometimes my homeland is embarrassing -- but it's like family.

Red White Blue - what can you do?

We'll figure this all out somehow.
