What an exciting moment: my first thread on the automotive forum and my first car!

Until I give him/her a name let me present Volvo c30, a three door (I insist, the boot counts as a door), 115hp, 1.5 ton machine of Swedish engineering.

C30 is a lovely car, I love the design and then there is the Volvo drive, smooth

My partner at work has one in black, a 5-speed, like yours.

We are in CT and he did not want to order one and wait. The closest 5-speed was in Michigan, so he had his dealer flatbed it to CT. Apparently most of them are automatic.

I've driven it a few times and am very impressed. Very solid, sure-footed and pretty quick too.

I'm a big fan of 3-door cars and think the C30 is one of the finest.

Well, the concept knew an evolution with the 480. The C 30 is much better, and much nicer, IMO.

i liked the design from the moment they came out. they are targeted at people just like you, the youngsters with a sense of style. hopefully they will keep you in the volvo family as you get older. thats their plan at least.
can i ask the engine? is it the D3 diesel?

It's a 1.6L diesel engine.

the gearbox is super smooth and acceleration is enough to make me smile...for now...and until i get an Audi r8

a great choice for a guy your age. my son had a 2000 1.8 turbo golf gti at your age, but it was an older car.
he now drives a VW Transporter, but he is a mechanic and in a band so needs the space.

i've pretty much decided that as i'm 49 in 3 weeks, i'll be keeping my 3 litre subaru legacy forever. i like the comfort, reliability, tiptronic gearbox, handling and speed.
now i travel short distances more often i'm not so happy with 20mpg average, but when you blast it all those worries go away and you get a big grin.

i did manage 30mpg from mine to basingstoke on sunday. 70mph up the motorway with cruise control on. not a record, but not far off :)

enjoy it and drive safely. if you want tips from an ex traffic cop just ask.

I would have loved a gti golf. The problem was the insurance costs...

the Volvo is the safest car in its category with as many airbags as i have fingers and a steel roll cage.the next safest thing is a Swiss library, haha.

of course ill drive safely...driving in France and Paris in particular is soooo scary! At the moment, and with my experience, i see my car as a tool...not a toy. I'm expecting this to switch over in a couple of years...
