Patek Philippe

I just traded a couple of watches for the cash needed for funding an Aquanaut 5167 1a.

Things all started two weeks ago when the salesman of my acquaintance invited me to have a look at some of the newly stocked items. I dropped by the AD this morning to tried a few watches of my interest, including Breguet Marine, AP RO Diver and some Hublots.

Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately in hindsight), none of the abovementioned pieces fitted my wrist. Noticing this problem, the salesperson turn to the safe, and took out something that was still in factory bag and had not yet been displayed - the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167 1a.

It was love at first sight. The moment I saw that dial, I knew I wanted it! And the moment I put it on my wrist, I knew I must have it! There was simply no way back. The salesperson indicated a good discount (by good I mean better than what I expected), suggested me to spend a few days for consideration, and guaranteed that the watch would not be sold until I give him a clear answer in a few days time.

A few days? No, I want it so bad that I want it to be mine as soon as possible! And since I will be on vacation tomorrow, I didn't really have much time (and need) for consideration.

Without hesitation, I ran home, grabbed my Rolex Hulk, blue Yacht-Master and PAM111 and rushed to a second-hand watch store. The owner gave my watches a good valuation (again, by good I mean better than what I expected). Needless to say, I took the offer and left with cash. Rushed back to the AD and got the deal done.

40mm is just perfect.

This is definitely the most comfortable bracelet I've ever had.

If it was me, I would not trade-off this way..I like the 3 pieces you sacrificed

I still like the sacrificed pieces, but thought that things do have to move on.

Its my first time seeing a 5167 with bracelet as most sold in my country are in rubber, and, it looks fabulous!

Sometimes crazy is the only way to get what you really want. Congrats!

How many time I thought to sell everything to fund a dream watch, something from Geneva, Le Sentier or Glashütte. But the thing is I like having the choice among those I own and I didn't decide yet what is my dream watch

Tyo as well.  Thing is, like the OP, if you're absolutely sure and can just walk away with 1-watch and be content, then that's fantastic.  I suppose, it's like ending a bad-relationship, where you rip the bandage and never look back.

Sometimes decisions have to made, and I will stand by you when that day comes.

it's more like a love at first try than at first sight.

I seriously considered at this time selling everything single watch I owned but.... I resisted

I have the same set of couples watches as well.  Eventually, got another 5167R for my wife!  I love the 5167/1A.  It's very comfortable and perfect for everyday.  Congrats!

It is quite difficult to find a watch that feels nearly 100% of our criteria/needs etc...

You'll be able to do everything with this Aquanaut and, yes, Patek's bracelets are top notch among all brands.

By selling your three watches for this beauty. Most importantly, is the passion you have for your new piece whatever the brand may be. It is because of passion that we are able to make sacrifices that others might not appreciate. I have just done something similar so I can relate to your experience. Well done! the 5167/1a is frequently overlooked compared to the Nautilus but it is less common as most Aquanauts are seen with a rubber strap. Great choice!!

Not that crazy - grabbing what you want when it's offered, and doing a bit better than expected helps.

and hesitate to make a decision, but it does no good. Be brave, be determined, take action, make the move. Life is an adventure, and for the first time I learned this from watches. They do a lot more than just telling time.

I'm grateful that I'm in the watch-loving world, and thank you all Purists for educating me and nourishing my life in many different ways.
