Before the Basel Fair, there was no other choice than the white dial if you like the 5960 / 1A.
Now, there is an alternative: The black, or the white dial.
Personally, I would go for the white. Why? Because it has an incredible depth and coolness. Not that the black is not interesting, by far, but this white dial has a lot of charm.

I would go for the blue dial with the brown strap
That they offered in white gold unfortunately! Almost perfect, I feel they should offer all of these in steel and with a strap option. I fear the bracelet may be a touch too intricate to fit the sports appeal of the watch itself.

It does bother me a little that Patek no longer sells steel pin buckles. I wear my 5960A on strap occasionally but prefer a pin buckle so have to use a generic one which works just fine... but would have preferred one from PP [nt]

Sometimes I'm worried that the manufacturer forgets some basic things about business: who are the clients and what do they want.

This is hard to tell before seeing the new one...
...but I think I would go for the black dial.
On the Sporty - Chic line I would say the white one is more on the sporty side than the black dial. Because of the black colour but also because of the white gold finish of all the dial elements (hands, markers, window frames...) which are a little more classical and neutral. This is leads to a more contrasted and dynamic dial in the white reference.
That's just my subjective feeling and it will depend on how the owner will enjoy it. For instance, I see why you like the white one and totally see you wearing it on holidays or while driving your nice Volvo on a Sunday morning.
I would use it as an everyday wearer and I would prefer the black one in that context.
I'll see how I feel after I try them in a few months.

Seen one black (pic cred Hodinkee) on a wrist and it looks amazing, very different character but very cool nevertheless. On a black cordovan strap perhaps?

I really don't know. I think the 5960/ 1A White is circa 40 K euros. I don't see why the Black would be more expensive. [nt]

I expect same retail price for both steel versions
However I think the black will carry a different gray market price as I believe (read hope) Patek will better control supply of this. The white dial unfortunately is oversupplied and perhaps an error in estimating demand but hope they will sort that out going forward in the interest of managing brand equity!

The MSRP of both watches are the same
45 000 CHF excl. VAT.
The white one was 46 300 K€ incl. VAT in 2015 in France for instance.

black dial because it offers more contrast !
