A Master Watchmaker of Pated placed my watch under microscope and showed the picture on a big screen. At the same time he explained the new Advanced Research inventions of 5650G. Really impressive!
The new time zone setting mechanism is fantastic but a "normal watch" with a guaranteed accuracy between minus 1 second and plus two seconds per day is something stunning. I presume that within a couple of years most Patek mechanical wristwatches will be built to same level of accuracy. That would be a real game changer.

The 5650 is an interesting piece for many reasons as has been
outlined in previous threads. It's also interesting to note how soon
after Basel this watch is in the hands of owners. A possible indication
of excess production capacity, allowing for early assembly.

This is a limited edition of 500 that has been in the planning for years. The last AR watch was several years ago.
Seems plausible to me that they have the 500 produced already as it's not an ongoing production. For a limited edition, I can't see excess capacity issues. Am I missing something?

Probably all 500 were manufactured some time ago and they are all allocated by now.

Excess capacity refers to a situation where a firm is producing at a lower scale of output than it has been designed for,
Allowing for the pre production of future product sooner. Clearly these 5650 watches
were produced and packaged early, but how early?
If demand for Pateks in the last year was strong and output was at capacity I doubt these
pieces would be available so soon after Basel.

and in a situation where.....
...the producer knows exactly how many will be produced ( a defined limited edition of 500) and exactly when sales will be made (Basel+.....and demand for this one is apparently 5-10 times greater than supply), I think excess capacity is most unlikely. Like you, i don't know for a fact....just an observation.
