5270R - What's not to love about this beauty?
I attended a presentation of Patek's 2017 novelties last week organized by my AD. After I saw 5320G and 5170P in the metal, I wasn't entirely convinced by either of them, for different reasons of course (although I would prefer 5170P over 5320G). Yesterday, my AD came up with 5270R and even before I had it on my wrist, I fell in love with it. The proportions of its case are simply perfect, IMO, and it provides for a classic combination of classic complications. I like the RG case and the beautifully toned dial, too. Are there any cons (personal taste cons are also welcome)? Best, Volker

It is really a perfect watch in every way. The watch market is just not what it was a few years back. Otherwise, these would be very scarce and hard to get.

Your comment regarding the watch market is fair for sure, but there are also some particular circumstances here ;-)

though I could be considered biased as I have one on order which I have been told should arrive end of August/early September having sold my 5170G and 5960/1A to partly fund it. I chose it because for me it represents one of the best watches PP currently makes..

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 5270r however,
In my mind and I'm sure in many minds here it's more of a question of 5270 V 5970
If I had to choose between these 2 watches for me it's a No Brainer. 5970 for all the reasons I fell in love with Patek.
This said I love the 5270r very much and will do my upmost to add one into my varied collection one day. I appreciate everything about it just not as much as I do the 5970. My thoughts are that if you are in the market for a 5270 why not buy a 5970???? I think this thought is being echoed in the 5270/5970 market at the moment.

Well for me I like the 5270R in preference to the 5970...
like I chose the 5170 over the 5070 but that's just me plus there's the appeal of buying one new with my name on the papers etc
I read the recent posts comparing 5970 and 5270, and also the article about 5970 in the current Patek magazine.
At that price level, however, I would only buy from my AD or a Patek Salon, unless I found 5970 way better than 5270 which clearly isn't the case.

just a taste thing.....
......for me, the dial needs to be an aesthetic that is cohesive to me. The holes are disruptive to my aesthetic.

The patent examination report has arrived and according to my patent lawyer it is looking good to get the patent.
The whole process will take at least three to four years before the patent document is in my hands.
But I am hopeful and have already placed the product on the market with an utility patent ( unexamined patent).

This is in many ways and also in terms of aesthetics close to perfection as far as I'm concerned. It is very difficult for traditional brands to modernize their collections and this one is a masterpiece in that field. That's what makes also the aesthetical difference with the 5970. I don't consider one better than the other.
The 5970 is aesthetically more in the "older" period whereas the 5270 has brought the complication in today. It is not modern but it has modernized a traditional design. That's the difficulty and that's why I think this reference is a masterpiece.
Take your time, consider eventually the 5970 as well (as you didn't mention it in your post), but it is important to remain objective on your side (because it is you who is going to pay) and keep a sort of independence from what we read on forums.
It is important to read every opinions here as there are knowledgeable people, owners and members around the same passion but it is also good imho to have different views on a watch.
Otherwise we would only wear 5711, 5110, 5070 and 5970 watches :p
The 5270G 3rd series is a watch I'm considering seriously too (but not the only one).
I have no cons, even the small subdial hands that I prefer that way instead of "Leaf" because it avoids bringing to much shapes on the dial as there are already several scales (scales positions that I think are a work of art). The only personal thing I would change is the design of the crown's notches.

Yes, I read your review of 5270, and I fully agree with your assessment above. The 5270 indeed represents a more modern approach, and I also really like the warmth of the YG and the case diameter of 41 mm.
5270 is a fantastic choice
But like Miles and Nicolas, I would (and did) go for the 5970 in preference. My recent post went through the analysis.

Not only that I probably like 5270 better, I also wouldn't buy from anyone else than my AD or a Patek Salon at that price level. This takes 5970 out of the game.
