Celebrating Australian Day with my first Patek Philippe 5164R
Hi Guys
I purchased my first PP 5164R back in October and didn't pick it up until recently because I'm taking it overseas to get Duty Free on it.
One thing I have learnt is that if you like a PP don't hesitate or at least put down a deposit on the spot because it goes very quick.
I saw 5164 and 5167R on the same day and went home to ask wife for permission and 1 week later both was gone. Was quiet upset but I was very lucky that
2 month later 5164R came in and I just took it without hesitation.
I'm loving the watch ATM it has so much class to it.
Few question I have to all the expert here. Anyone wear a PP daily ?? Since this is my first PP, I have been wearing it every day but
getting a lot of feedback that heaps people don't really wear PP on daily basis.
In my last picture I have a JCL duometre and that was purchase in 2016 and that was my daily watch for the last 2 years and it look I have taken it to World War III
I guess i can always polish any watches up and it will look like brand new, just like to get some feedback on from you guys to see if my watch should be daily watch or a more special day watch.

If I don’t own any Patek, I don’t know why yours could not be worn on a daily basis. It’s splendid so enjoy it everyday if you want.

Congrats. Your 5164R is a beautiful watch.
I wear Patek some 360 days a year - just very seldom I take something else.
You can easily get your Patek polished. The bezel and clasp lock of Aquanaut are real scratch magnets. My solution is that on normal days I wear mostly 5960A which has a polished case. Scratches do not come so easily. In the office I wear often Nautilus and 5650 (=sister of 5164) is my travel and pool watch.
I have a bunch of platinum pieces and those I wear when feeling special. Some meetings or I just happen to feel great.

The clasp already few scratches none of the bezel as yet. Do you know how much to get get the case polish ?

Please note that you can’t polish gold till eternity because each and every polishing removes a little bit of metal. That’s the reason why I mostly wear the steel watches.
On the other hand, you can also simply ignore the scratches.

"Simply ignore the scratches." 100% right! I wear PP every day and virtually every reference I own shows the clear signs of wear = scratches 😀
I know they can sting when first discovered, but with time all of these "love marks" will add to the character of the watch and remind you of the fond memories you'll carry with you. My two cents 😊

I'm pretty good at ignoring the scotches on the JCL but on the new 5164 just hurts a little. Thank you Kari, I will check the Website.

I wear a Patek daily, and feel quite naked without one on my wrist. 😆

I wear 5167A daily, for many years. No Problem with the watch and it’s mechanism but there were some scratches; I was not particularly being careful. I made the mistake of having it furbished which completely ruined the case but Patek was kind enough to replace the whole case which I do not think happens very often. My advice would be wear it daily but just look after it. If you get scratches, live with them and don’t have it refurbished.

By the way, you can get only the covers (not the whole clasp) with the Calatrava cross if you get a lot of scratches on the clasp. It is much cheaper and very easy to replace and of course much better than refurbishing it.

A cool reference.I wear my 5167 almost every single day for more than two years,Occasionally I wear my nautilus and 5960 but the aquanaut is more versatile.....The bezel is a scratch magnet indeed but who cares.Enjoy

Definitely wear it daily, if desired. I'm impressed with you wearing the Duo as a daily piece when you have the DS in stock.

Congratulations
on your first pickup, depending on the metal will determine how often I will wear a watch. A Gold or Platinum metal watch being polished over and over again will heavily diminish the value as grams are being scrubbed away from the weight.
Stainless steel watches are great for daily beaters, gold/ platinum are excellent for once a week or occasionally. Just depends on your comfortability regarding the resale if you ever intend to do so.

Don’t see the point of having something and not using it - there are some scratches due to normal use but that’s part of the charm. Watches are meant to be worn.

it is a wonderful reference. I do not see it being an issue to wear on a daily basis. I personally wear a Patek 5 or 6 days a week as I believe they are meant to be enjoyed. On a pure practical perspective probably your Rolexes are easier daily wearers but both the Duo and Aqua are great daily wearers I think. Enjoy!

I wear my 5980 all the time. I use to not wear my Sea-dweller at work because I was worried about looking pretentious. Then I realized I was just punishing myself.
Wear it and enjoy it. Scratches, that’s called living life.
