Hi Guys. Wanted your thoughts on a possible addition to an existing collection that was passed from my father, whose since passed on. 

I need to persuade my father to start collecting watches!!! 

I would definitely go for the 5950R if they are still available. The ultra thin movement of the split second chronograph is Patek at its best!  I would ignore the 40th anniversary models as they are way overpriced in the used market and offer poor value for money in my opinion. The 5740 is obviously a nice watch - my only qualm being its weight - lovely and thin though.

Yes. 5950 would be good but I think my wrist isn’t that big. Not sure as I’ve not seen or tried one on.

It officially measures 44 x 37 but the 44mm includes the lugs. I have a 5940G which is the same size and I have a small wrist too.

37 is def doable. And I actually think the current rose gold suits the watch for more formal occasions. Would surely have to think over it. But yes to me this is one of the front runners.

For the ultimate Patek. That can more or less close your collection. It is truly a blessing to inherit your Dad's collection.

Quite a nice mix of Aquanaut/Nautilus and AC, PCC, chrono, split second. If you are looking to add to the collection, I would look to add a simple Calatrava or a Minute Repeater on the other end of the spectrum. A Calatrava would be a simple, yet elegant dress watch that is quite different from the complicated dress watches already in the collection. On the other end of the spectrum, a minute repeater is a collector's watch, that has a more historical significance. And no one does a MR better than Patek.

current production models. I would recommend expanding into the 90s/00s or even vintage 50s/60s to optimize it.

Never sell any of them...he have built a wonderful collection. Regrets comes quite later after short term pleasures of selling...I would treat it as his legacy & keep it intact !

Then if you really like watches...start one of your own & have your collection defined by your taste.

Probably you might be astonished what story it would tell when you compare both after a decade !!

Yes. I totally agree. I suppose naturally the collection will evolve to my taste as I “carry the torch” for this generation so to speak.

This collection has more value the way it is now imho. Wear them with pride

But there is no urgent need to add anything here in my opinion...

Yes. I am asking for future reference and not necessarily for purchase tomorrow. As any PP watch purchases isn’t insignificant and should be saved for a marked occasion.

Dad started buying in the late 90’s, started with the jumbo Acquanat and the rest is history. I will def take care of his collection and would want to manage it with care.

It's very well rounded and diverse, with a preference for nice platinum or sports models. I'd either consolidate in one of these directions for a while, or have fun starting a new trend that you like. As others have suggested, perhaps some limited or more exotic pieces, like a 5131 or other rare handcrafts, would add further taste and uniqueness. Please keep us posted!😁

In addition to my condolences I must say what a nice taste he had! Wear them in good health and may you pass them to the next generation in a very very long time. You should maybe add the pcc with the salmon dial.

Your Dad left you an incredible collection of great variety and extraordinary quality. I suggest before buying anything that you wear each of the watches. Aside from honoring your Dad’s memory, I think you will derive great joy from wearing his amazing watches - both because they were his and because they are amazing watches. I think if you do this you will get a better idea of which watches, if any, you might want to add to the collection. This will be an incredibly joyous horological journey of discovery. A very smart answer might I add. Appreciate the sincerity. I haven’t used all the pieces, and would want an occasion to open the 5370. So maybe only after all that then I can have a better mind in thinking what to do next.

... i would wear them especially for sentimental reasons. Then there is this 5370P that is calling to be unsealed and worn. So adding doesn't make sense. But if you really can't resist, i would add a 5204P black dial. 

That collection looks pretty complete. I would wear those. That is the best way I can think to pay tribute to someone you hold dear in your heart. Throw on a watch and go for a walk. Loose your self and look down to see what time it is. Think of him and the smile he got knowing one day you'd be looking at the watch and smiling too.
