I wasn’t intending to be insulting I was merely identifying with the fact that there is a distinct difference between the feelings referred to and often one can pursue something out of capability rather than emotional stimulus, raises the question as...

The reason would be that it would be my grail watch. As a watch collector i love every watch that i own and use every watch that i own. Some watches might mean more because they have been bought for a special occasion

If neither of these can help you make that connection or get your heart racing then maybe there’s a mystery watch out there that can... what watch would your friends or family choose for you?

Simply no comparison. GF is the pinnacle of watch making. I have both the GMT and GMT Earth variations of GF. The wrist presence is massive and the watch is a pure work of art.
Truly no contest for me here my friend ;-)
The only thing might be, even if I'm sure you'll qualify, the waiting times for the 5531...can your AD give you an estimate before you commit? Less than a year would be extremely good for it, but you might have to wait a lot longer...;-)

In this case, Patek for me
I’ll never be in the position to any watch of this level, and if would probably go a different route. But with choice limited to these 2 watches, the Patek would be the only watch that could be worn comfortably. And in this league, I suppose one starts also to think about how the watch will age in all possible ways: maintenance, looks and value....
But as Damian said, pretty sure one of these will just make you more excited as the other one. As you are a Patek guy, perhaps it is th GF, otherwise you’ll never ask the question?

I would contest the statement that the GF is unwearable. Although I am in the same boat as you in not being in the realm to consider purchasing either, I have worn a GF GMT a few times and found it quite comfortable. A beautifully executed piece, and would be my choice in this situation.

I know lugs can be so different. Still 44.5 mm might be to imposing for me. It is not exactly a watch that will go under the radar...

They are actually exactly the same
The GF shows that it is an automat in the dial.
The Patek shows it on the back.
Patek has possibly got a better value in the future but the GF is more of an automat.
