I hope it is linked to the COVID 5th wave and not a new "normal" as it was a pleasure to come by without planning ahead and have a chat with the sales rep in the Salon especially when you have in mind spending some tens of thousands euros ..
Sadly my gut says that post COVID they will maintain the
Appointment system. It's a pity as sometimes I enjoyed popping in at the spur of the moment
I think if they were concerned with robberies they would have implimented the system prior to COVID...this is a by product of COVID and now brings the allure of exclusivity but
really is just an annoyance..but as TINA applies...we have to just suck it up!! London Salon operates an interlock

...all of the organized (30-80 people) smash and grabs started during covid...
no clue..but I do believe we are taking about Patek Salons and appointment only bases...no idea what happens in CA Bay area

I am not surprised with the appointment only shopping experience especially with the mob thefts going about in the US such as the Louis Vuitton store in San Francisco getting ransack empty.
It's a safer way for the boutiques and clientele to do business.

You get undivided attention, personalised service and no other stranger looking over your shoulder . I kinda find it convenient..they are showing you pcs from the vault and lots of rare birds spring out .

That's what i was told yesterday at a french PP event... Not directly COVID related but more to manage the queue outside of the salon (especially long since September) where they have been considering that this was not a good experience for a customer to wait for an hour outside of the salon ...
To this add the potential risks ... people waiting in front of PP=potential watches to steal and also they also say that this will give them more time with customers ...

Policy?
Was there earlier this week and was told that due to a new policy as of two months ago they cannot sell any watch to a foreign customer (I’m American) they do not have a pre-existing relationship with. I was also advised not to wear my Aquanaut in Paris lest my nose would be broken when it likely would get taken from me by a robber! (I followed this advice).
