Patek Philippe 5178G-012 NEW MINUTE REPEATER 2023
After hearing the Patek Philippe news, I have to say that the new Reference 5178G-012 is an absolutely remarkable watch. It has a hand-guilloched dial covered with enamel, which appears in many different colors depending on the incidence of light. In addition, at first glance the watch "only" appears as a breathtaking watch with a small second and beautiful breguet numbers.Only when you take a closer look can you see the lever for activating the minute repeater...then the unique sound of the cathedral gong comes to the fore. The predecessor of the current 5178 had the milky yellowish enamel dial that made the watch appear very classic, this could definitely not be changed by any other strap, so it was probably too classic for some people, including me......However, one must also say that the standard strap is not for everyone, since the blue strap makes the watch look quite blue, but you should look at the watch by the orange strap that comes with it, then it looks rather sporty, and that with an MR, I think that's absolutely brilliant, I'm also of the opinion that many straps that have a color other than blue fit the watch, then the watch is not too blue overall and the dial gets the attention it deserves. You should imagine the watch with a matte plain black/anthracite strap. Personally, I like the watch more and more from time to time, especially because the watch can be worn sporty or elegantly with jeans. What do you think of the special classic, sporty watch, have you already taken a closer look at this piece?

Looks a little too flamboyant for me, but we'll see...
I'm still a little timid to wear my brightly colored pants. But then again, some people are accustomed to dressing more conservatively and some are accustomed to having a little more fun with what they wear. I'm slowly edging out of the closet (get the pun?) and starting to wear more colorful clothes! Maybe one day I'll graduate to a more colorful watch!

I’m also more conservative but i want to show how many faces the watch with different straps has. I don’t think I would wear it with an orange strap but it shows the potential from that piece.

I think someone is calling me here... ;-)) Very appreciative of Patek's direction in this area, my friend, though even within our clear "modernization" efforts in the design department, I agree it was sensitive to include both straps with this piece.
The blue dial already offers quite a significant departure from the 5078 and earlier 5178, especially for such a classical complication as a MR, so I can understand that some collectors may prefer less "impactful" versions when it comes to design and choice of colors. In the end, this is one of Patek's areas of absolute excellence, deeply rooted in its long history and tradition....not to mention, more practically, that we've been pricing this new reference at CHF 420k! 
Including the orange strap as "additional" (even if it would be my personal choice over the blue one, if you ask me! ) will likely broaden the appeal of this exquisite new offering to a younger generation, while remaining respectful of the expectations of the more classical collector

If I may share my feelings, this vibrant color and other model color detail touches actually expands PP traditional into avant-garde classic which is very chic and present.
The world need this after the 2 years of depressing days. The new collectors also IMHO welcome this new genre/style of PP.
For some of us it is still an acquired test. Perhaps its quantum leap of taste but we will get there.
After all, resistance to PP and defying Professor's theorem are futile 😄

That's true... It's been a dark world! Time for some color and light!
We've been seeing more color on watches. Especially green and burgundy in addition to the blue and Tiffany Blue.
Fully agreed, I'm actually a profoundly optimistic and generally very happy person, and I like to think Patek and horology are playing a role in this sense -- the world needs beauty, color, and optimism now possibly more than ever in our lifetimes! ;-)
I'm sure there will always be room for a classical offering though, also in terms of design codes. Striking a right balance between respecting Patek's unique history and tradition with a new model, while constantly researching for progress in all areas (technical, aesthetic, scientific) is never easy....but I'm glad so many collectors are finding the current outcome attractive!

5070P vs 5170P
It is nearly the same situation as it was 2018 when Patek released the 5170P with baguettes. Today 5 years later the world loves the 5170P as well.
