3940 - what to look out for?
After kicking the idea around over the last week or so I’ve decided to go for it.
Thinking of the last generation in yellow gold.
Anything particular to be wary of when buying this reference? Any reason not to buy the last gen? Gen 1 would be out of my price range.
Yeah colored gold feels right for the reference
And with a lighter colored strap, it’s easy enough to dress down.
You will love the 3940
My personal taste in the 3940 runs toward yellow gold. Rose gold is beautiful as well, but for me it is not worth the premium you will have to pay for it. Congratulations on you decision, you won’t regret it.

Rose is nice but something about yellow gold is very “right” for older watches. I’d consider white gold too for a more casual aesthetic but I feel you can get yellow gold there with casual looking straps. Like suede, nubuck gator, etc.
Personally, I am partial to the early second series.
I do not care for the crosshairs at 3:00.
If you do not want to spring for the early second series, I'd snag a late second series over the third series if I was in your shoes. I like the font in the second series better.
First series obviously very nice, but for some reason I actually prefer the early second series dials. Subdials on the first series always looked a little small to my uneducated eye.

The only downside for me with the 3940 is that I won’t be able to wear it out much given I live in Vancouver where it’s wet 70% of the year haha
3940 has a very balanced dial !
Key is to ensure you are buying from a trusted seller.
