the 1938P !
This piece is an heirloom from a big and loyal Patek collector. Naturally he has a strong relationship with the Stern family and admires this watch. I am happy for him and his next generation(s) !
Interestingly it was the eventual heir that allowed me to inspect this watch, knowing that yours truly (the self-proclaimed enamel addict/slave) would salivate over its grand feu miniature painting on enamel. According to the Patek, this dial has "a tiny picture built up in small deft touches –fruit of one of the precious rare handcrafts that the manufacture’s honorary president has taken such care to nurture."
The picture is a sensitive points for many forum members and I can understand why. On the wrist, the silhouette of Mr. P. Stern is quite subtle. The case is well constructed and the “officer” back cover is a delight to open.
Mr. "Heir" was a good sport and allowed me to pull the lever after setting the watch at 12:59. Though not particularly loud (it was a sizable room that we were in), the sounds were crystal clear and were music 🎶 to my ears !
It is always a privilege to handle a MR and this one is way up there !
