I discovered its existence while exploring the collection of our dear Roni Madhvani, to whom it belonged.
I know that hooded lugs are no longer in fashion and that the design of this watch will not appeal to many, but, seen on Roni Madhvani's wrist, I find it full of style and charm.

Manufactured in 1942, this specific watch is considered, to the best of the available knowledge, to be the only example of ref. 1542 to have survived.

I like it
Full of character and more interesting than many of the contemporary models but that's just where my tastes are at the moment.
One small question, there seems to be a black mark (or a hole) just below the number 3 index, is that just an illusion?
I think it’s the hole into which the
bottom foot of the applied three is inserted. Why is it visible when it shouldn’t be of course, I don’t know…

Love it and the Comet as well. I guess they date back to when lug and case design were more impressive than today.
Perhaps today they stay more generic to not alienate anyone.
I think you are absolutely right.
The imperative to be profitable certainly discourages straying too far from more consensual shapes.
