Thanks for the wonderfull pics. A few days ago I was in London for a couple of days and ofcourse I went to New & Old Bondstreet. I was surprised to see a 5959 in the Patek Boutique. (I don't know if it was for sale) Maybe it was already sold but not picked up yet. Anyway, the watch is gorgeous but I really don't understand why they made it so small. I won't say every watch needs to be 47 mm but 33 is something I don't get.

I understand your position but honestly my opinion is that the charm of the 5959 comes from its unique size and thinness.

Larger it would be too thin, thicker would be pointless!

Plus the calibre would be lost inside a larger case.

The 5970 and 5070 are very nice larger options.

The 5004 is a nice intermediate.

5959 is IMVHO perfect for those who love small watches (I do).

A simple calatrava or one of the 1950  pieces are so sublime and personally are what PP is all about.

Yes I would long for a 3970 or a 3940 or one of the 1516 but I am always satisfied and contented with my simple pieces

I am alwys looking for another holy grail piece, as a collector I do not really think I will ever "finish", when that happens it is time to get rid of the watches and move onto something else, never gonna happen!

The holy grail piece dosen't exist! You're totally right! They always try to make us think that it is the ultimate, but there's no ultimate.

Enzo Ferrari always said that his favorite car was the next one!

We just have to look for other pieces to hope to get.

I, for one, deeply think that simple pieces can co exist with  more complicated ones...

It is not the same pleasure, and you can really reach the perfection with a " simple " watch, as a Calatrava, VC, JLC, DUFOUR, KV or whatever...

I have simple tastes, and will be very happy with a 5070 ( P if possible ..LOL),  or with a 5102 Celestial, or also with a WG 5100 Ten Days...

The diversity in the possibilities, and in our tastes contribute to feed our Passion for watches, my friend.

I like your simple taste!

I know how you truly appreciate a simple piece like your 5196P.

Of course we love and need complicated pieces, but it's just that I sometime find here that owners of simple pieces should share more about their simple love.

We get to see and talk about many superb pieces like chronographs or perpetual calendars and perhaps this refrains soem to share their simple and true love!

Yes ok, the 5959 (especially with black dial) is a killer. Saw it in metal and it was just so great. ...

But my heart belongs to the simple watches.

My all time favorite PP is 3960G ...

... which is so difficult to find/get. No luck so far :-(

YG I saw several times, but unfortunately I´m a "white metal guy".

The closest I could get, was in 1989 ...

Bruno, I too visited the PP Salon this week and I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to be shown a 5970 in Y/G all still sealed  & ready for collection. And a R/G 5074 - which I believe was for sale. The staff, as you would hopefore were truely magnificent and took a great deal of time showing my wife and I these 2 beautiful pieces. I was even able - for the first time, to hear the minute repeater on the 5074. That was awesome.

The Geneva Patek Philippe salon is  a very nice place, perfect for great times!

I also heard a 5016 some years back at the Paris salon! A memorable time of close search for perfection!

It's still always a pleasure to sit there and put a 5196 on the wrist.

Am I envious of those who possess these complicated Pateks? Why should I be, when I have such classic elegance at my beck and call?

But I spent twenty years reading and lurking, so I've had time to think and define priorities!

I know I love them, but I don't necessarily need them to be satisfied (even if they would do the job).

I've owned my 6000G-010 for about 12 months and I love it like you would not believe. I have often considered selling it for another more complicated timepiece. I love the 5035/5146 annual calendars and have considered it quite often. However, I always come back to falling back in love with this watch. There's just something about it that's just amazing. I love so many things about it. I love the 240 caliber in this watch. I love the racing inspired dial that is even nicer than the 001 black dial, in my opinion. I love the size and presence this watch has on the wrist, look at the shots below. I love that this piece comes with a deployant clasp instead of a tang buckle. I love it that I don't know anyone else who owns it, nor do I see anyone on timezone or this site that posts pics of it besides me. The exclusivity so far is really a cool thing to me...

Most of all, I love that the certificate on this watch has my name on it and it's really my first watch. Sure I have a Rolex GMTII, SS Daytona, JLC Reverso, but those were not bought from an AD and the box and papers are either open or have someone else's name on them. This watch is in the archives of Patek Philippe with my name on it. I don't know why, but that means something to me as a collector.

The 6000G may be a the bridge between sporty and classy that no other calatrava really represents as well. I do think the 5296-001 is a close 2nd though.

Thanks for validating my love for this watch. I knew I had to have it the first time I saw it, and getting it was a great pleasure in my life.

Obviously your watch could well be someday my first PP!

Clean, understated, practical with the date, perfectly engined (Hummm this 240)!

It fights with a 5124G, a 5196R, the 5712/1, 5196P and 5396 being even more unattainable!

I agree with you and Jerome. This watch is unattainable in many ways: The harmony between the dial and the case; its presence on the wrist; and the beautiful and reliable movement. To my taste it is the best Calatrva design although I still like the discontinued black dial better. It is also unattainable for me in another way. I made two attempts to buy it and every time I walked out of the AD shop with a complication on my wrist which I had not intented. That brings me back to the original question: Why the hell we are so much freaked with the complications. I assume simply because they represent the real accomplishment and ability of the brand. In most cases they are totally useless in real life practice but we like them. It is very much like mankind running 100 m under 9 sec. and breaking a world record. It is useless but so exciting, so breathtaking.
