I notice 3 pictures of the dial-side of the new 5101R, 2 have a serial number in the sub-second dial, one doesn't.  I'm assuming the one without is a rendering, and they didn't bother rendering a bogus SN, or is it the other way around?

Hi Aaron,

The real ones will have the calibre serial number on the dial as it is always the case with PP tourbillon watches.

I suppose the first pic is from a proto (that can't have a fake serial number).

Patek, perhaps, is wary of launching a fabulous innovative groundbreaking (uh, for Patek anyway) timepiece at this point in the economic history of mankind... save it for next year?? But who knows.

PP is not immune to ecomony crisis.  For the brand, it is a wise move to incur mnimal cost by merely changing the metal and the dial in their "new" range.  Some will still say wow but not me.

I have been waiting for a watch like this for my 19 yr old girl.

Round. 38 to 38.5mm. My daughter is slim and actually thin.

Officer's case with a half hunter back.

And for an "official" father's gift to her for making it to my "dream" medical school.

She has way too many AHCI watches already...and even several unusual pieces from IWC.

But..a textbook watch, a gold standard..is a Patek.

ps: a 5153 is deserved indeed!

The people here, and this includes those who don't post are like a large family or community of family friends at the least.

There are an incredible number of doctors here. I am sure, that as she begins her new life in London, she will come across the wide world of the Purists.

In fact, I have actually met children of some members before I have met the parents! It's fantastic and warm, and a pleasure to help them out.

Thanks and I hope to meet as many of you guys as I can...I will be in the UK very often from 2009. Chuckles.

and the GBP was also at this level.

 

as noted by the others, it does seem that RG is the color of the moment. I wonder if this has to do with having the same complication in a lower price point to accommodate the economic slowdown as the sole reason for such a move? Or is Patek once again at the forefront of trends?

Nevertheless, the execution is typical Patek, classy and understated and yet still projecting the Patek aura. Can't wait to see them in the metal. Thanks again for sharing.

I have no sure answer but certainly it is pertinent to offer more affordable watches at this time!

Not everybody can afford and even like platinum so pink gold versions are appealing!

A 5098R could well become my next desire!

I wonder were the 5960R will fit in in terms of pricing.

Perhaps the reason increased the price for the 5960P so drastically was so that they could wedge this one just under it, but still above the 5980

for the post. Agree with Nicolas, for the most part, nothing new, just revamped.

Don't care for the 5960R. Seems as if PP was unsure on how much lighter to make the dial. Love the dark gray on platinum. Perhaps this one should've had a cream dial that would compliment the RG case or even a plain white dial. The light gray dial doesn't work for me.

My overall feeling of the collection is a bit of a disappointment.
The one I like is 5101R.
5970P is very predictable and , honestly, not that nice but ,obviously more rare.
But , selfishly, I know I'm happy I won't need to swap my 5970G with a 5970P.
In my mind, I thought it would be so much more powerful if they introduce 5970P with a Dark Grey dial or salmon dial with arabic numeral.
That will be a true stunner.
Now , imho, if that's all for 5970........I think 5970G has just emerged as the most beautiful piece (in term of 3970/5970) while 5970J being the most vintage classic looking one. The black dial makes the watch looks 'trying to be modern and slick'....not sure if it fits on a 2499 inspired watch.
Just my thought.

it feels a bit of an aching pain knowing that this is it for 5970......ending with a disappointing black dial 5970P that try to look modern with a white chrono hand (yucks).
Imho, it works better with 5971P, looks classy.
When I know that the Blue dial 5970P is a unique piece, I was so hoping to see a salmon or gray dial or even a white dial with arabic index that depicts a 2499 image,
to close the chapter of 5970.
Truly disappointing and I'm not sure why am I disappointed as I said I'm not in the position to buy anything now.
But what's interesting now is to see the reaction of the collectors......knowing that 5970J is way rarer than a 5970G or R, will the go pursue it NOW and hype the price up crazily. This usually happens on model that's WG or PT but I will be interested to see how will this work on a yellow gold model.
For example, 5070J is much rarer than the other 5070s but it has no effect on the collectors.
Imo, 5970J is very beautiful and classic. I myself can't wear YG well so I will have to stick with a WG version.
For now, I will dream for a 5101R
