and we are discussing where to have our holidays this summer.

But the world has also many other places to offer...

The 5131G hour hand is pointing to Antarctica. There are tours leaving from Argentina in December and January.

I'm spending a lot of time in Lapland but it's not really cold. The lowest temperature I have experienced there was minus 51 degrees. The best freezing experience was during a 8 days hunting trip in Greenland. The temperature was all the time below minus 40 degrees, we traveled with dog sledges and slept in the tents. The toilets were open-air temporary constructions. Interesting...

I hunted 5131 since the day "J" was published
and the introduction of "G" just modified the target. So it takes time and a good guess is that most of us who got ours from the AD waited 4-5 years. But in addition to time, also luck is needed.
There are no obvious answers how to get one: I visited Paris Salon last Thursday when we happened to be in Paris. Naturally when they saw my 5131, the discussion turned into this reference. Paris Salon told that their list is so long that they do not take any new names to the list.
At the same time I believe that one day "R" and "P" will be published. Let's hope that the ones who have been on lists for the longest time, will get theirs first. I am sure that this reference is a problem also to Patek: only a certain number can be produced but there are much more good clients wanting to have one than the production actually is.

The answer is simple:
5131G is the Chines / Far Eastern version of the World Time while 5131J is the American one. Because Europe is between China and USA, Europeans can wear both.

... what maps will appear on their dials ?? Perhaps a map of the earth similar to the Ulysse Nardin's Tellurium would be fitting, with a North Pole view for one metal and South Pole view for the other.
In terms of the wait list for 5131, similar situation as the Paris Salon exists for the Shanghai Maison and Beijing Boutique.
For the 5130 Shanghai Limited Edition (25 pieces for each of R and G), the wait list was long enough that when a new request came it, it went to the general mailing list instead of the wait list. FYI, due to taxes in China, the price for the Shanghai 5130 (regular World Time dial) is the same as the 5131 (outside of China), and yet, demand was still strong.

Hi Gordon,
I made the question about the maps to a person who knows. The reply was: "naturally in P there's Arctic". I first thought he was joking. But when I thought about the issue, it would be natural to have Southern Hemisphere in R and Northern Hemisphere in P.
I have been told with very straight face that both R and P will come "when the time for those is mature".
It would be great to own all four but probably very unrealistic. I am very happy with what I already have; 5131G was my Grail. But it seems to be the human nature that when one goal is achieved, the next goal is set.

yes, after getting the 5131G, it is a purist's natural instinct to pursue the 5131J
For me, the "urge" is suppressed with the 5130R Shanghai

If Patek would make a special version
dedicated to Lapland instead of Shanghai, I would also run after that. Luckily, there are so few people living in Lapland and for sure no clients of Patek that such a version is very unlikely.

A bigger problem is Fifi, Funny One's St. Bernhard puppy. I can't now get out from the house because this nice small dog chewed all the gate wires into small pieces. Perhaps you would like to baby-sit her?

The D-Lux is in constant use, thank you for that. I was just worried because you weren't able to fit the whole dial in one pic so I thought to offer my help.
Anyways, congrats for the fantastic grail of yours. I know how much you've looked forward to finally receiving it (since you've mentioned it once or twice). It is a beautiful watch and I must admit, you we're lucky with the dial, this one has excellent colors.
Now that you're collection is "complete" you should start to consider getting rid of the other ones? I'm still regretting for being stupid enough to sell my aquanaut away, and I'm afraid I should get a Patek to officially be authorized to write on this forum. Would you be willing to sell or trade yours? I've got this fantastic Piaget you might want to consider..

If I remember right,
I gave you my first Rolex I got on 26th April 1986... Then I gave you a Chopard LUC. Then you needed a "daily beater" and I "sold" you a Longines Legend Diver with the huge amount of € 100.
However, I must admit that at the moment I am very happy with my Patek watches. I have too few of them but time will hopefully correct this issue.
