Baron got me thinking, what would you consider are 5 Pateks that symbolise the brand
For me
1. A calatrava , preferably a version of the Bauhauss 96,maybe a vintage 570, or how about a 3796
2. A world time , the 5131/30 or 5110
3. A nautilus , maybe the father 3700
4. A perpetual chrono, a 2499 or 3790 or 5970
5. A gondolo , maybe 5124 or how about 5500 Pagoda, or a 1593 , my fav the 2442
So what would make your five piece collection?

Can't go vintage here, its not fair....
... so i choose the modern watches :
1- 5208P ( for the obvious reasons )
2- 5270G ( PC chrono is core DNA of Patek, they invented the complication, and the line since the 1518 is iconic )
3- 5131J ( enamel was the specialty of Stern before they takeover patek, and WT enamel always had a special place )
4- 5711A ( Steel of course, and nautilus has a strong place in Patek ID )
5- New simple calatrava ( you got to start somewhere )
It has nothing to do with the nicest pieces or the most complicated. For example a 5204 is a complex 5270, but that's another game

Because they are "locked" in a past...
... which represents only the roots of the brand.
The present collection has roots in the past, but turned towards the futur. The present and the futur that's what matters, that's how i see it.
5 seems like the magic number. I'd play choosing my 5...

Ah Oliver, yes I had forgotten the 5950A. Absolutely...
The Chronograph to have in my opinion, it is just sublime, the Rattrapante, the Case Design, the Dial, the Mouvement it has everything. So, ok, I'll swap my 1579 for your 5950A. Thank you very much ......in advance

1) 3417 Amagnetic
2) 5110 in white metal
3) 3700 would be the only one for me
4) 2499 without any hesitation
5) 5100P...if i had the wrist for it
OK....if you wanted to get exotic, you would go back a few more decades to pick up a very early world time, but then you need some help from the IMF to fund it. The 3417 is simply superb.....understated yet so special....Nautilus does represent some of the essence of Patek, but if we are being honest, its only in the last 30-40 years that it has come to represent that. If you are talking about true DNA of Patek, Nautilus just shouldn't be one of the 5. If it is on the list...has to be the original. 2499....has to be one of the nicest Pateks ever made imho. Gondolo....uhm....tricky.
