Patek Philippe

Dear All,

On May 26th, I was fortunately enough to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Maison and had a wonderful evening. The weather was perfect for the event as the sky was clear with no pollution!! The Beijing Maison is tastefully done and has a different colour scheme and decoration than the one in Shanghai. Both are worth visiting.   FYI, since 2008 (I believe) the Beijing boutique (now upgraded to Maison) has been located in a place called Ch'ien Men 23, the former American Legation.

Mr. and Mrs. Philippe Stern and Thierry Stern were at the event and were friendly with guests.  Thierry Stern joked that somebody (i.e. his wife Sandrine) had to work while he and his parents were traveling around the world.

Limited edition of the 5153 are being made (25 in white and 25 in yellow gold) to celebrate this occasion.  This reference has a different dial in that Brequet numerals are used as hour markers and the officer case has the Maison building engraved on it.

I just don't get the cow???

...the event was "transformed" into a location in Switzerland where cheese was served along with cows on the grass

I don't get that brand like PP is

...Patek felt that the Chinese customers wanted a Swiss like atmosphere (with chocolate, cheese fondue, etc.) but real cows might have been too much for the audience.  Possibly a cultural difference in taste between the Western and Chinese clients.

Allocation for a 5153 Beijing version, as you can imagine, is not that simple

The 5153 looks simple yet elegant.  a beauty.  What's the damage?

it seems I know nothing anymore. One more reason to come back in the (near) future and one I really look forward to.

G or J? Both look good on your wrist, but G would fit you even better - in this case.

Unfortunately Maison Boulud has closed a few months ago

I agree with your assessment that 5153G looks better on my wrist.  Off the wrist and just looking at this reference while holding it, I like the J better.

However, getting either the g or J is no easy task.

Nice watch, nice air without pollution, nice former and current Patek leaderships, nice venue in Beijing, but I was really shocked by the fake cow, fake butterflies, fake flowers and that huge and s***y 5153 Beijing edition rotatable model. Not like a Patek event that I am familiar with.

I quite liked the door at the entrance being the 5153J

Thanks for sharing the photos. I have never seen a clear blue sky in Beijing, but looks like it was a beautiful day for the opening day of the Maison.

you can only see after (heavy) rain, but then you can even see the mountains and that is very nice

Fortunately the on-going flow of champagne helped to reduce the heat to some extent.

FYI, the renovation for the upgrading of the Beijing boutique to a Maison was actually done around Chinese New Year (i.e. February) and the Maison was "opened" for business then.  The photos shown in this post were taken the day of the ceremony in May to formally launch the Maison.
