Advice needed on an internal struggle I could use some help with.
I may have an opportunity to trade my Nautilus 5726/1A Grey dial for a Grönefeld Remontoire 1941 with guilloche dial by Kari Voutilanen. What would you do? I really enjoy my Nautilus, and the thought of not having one gives me some pause. On the other hand, that Grönefeld Remontoire with KV dial is really special and there will only be 188 of them ever made. I’m leaving toward making the trade, but my stomach is uneasy for some reason.

The OP didn't state whether cash was included one way or the other, but I'd need some cash coming my way if I was to give up the 5726. Having said that, I don't think I'd do the trade anyway. For me, the Nautilus is both a better looking and more practical timepiece than the Gronefeld.

I would not go for it.
You will miss the Nautilus. I had two similar experiences with things I sold and regretted till bought them again: the 911 997 Turbo and the 5711 1A. Both came back at much higher prices but I had to find my peace. If you still like the Nautilus, don’t trade it.

I can relate to that since I have the 5726/1A white and it’s crazy now for these...
there was another similar thread of trading a 5711 for 5070.
I think now people are starting to realize “value”.
However, if that’s my only Nautilus and now that’s it’s discontinued, I will be hesitant unless maybe I swap for another PP Grand complication like 5270G/ or R.
Really depends on how much you like those 2 watches.
Good luck with your decision...but I think you’ll miss your Nautilus.
If you’re lucky, when prices started to be less crazy, you can always get it but locked in “profits” for now. That being said, the Gronefeld is not up there yet.
5-1 so far on keeping the Nautilus is not what I was expecting.

Some feelings on the Grönefeld.
I really was taken by it when I was able to try a friend’s piece earlier this year. The size is great, the movement and finishing are excellent, a remontoire is not a complication I currently have in my collection and I like the family story of why they chose to make that watch. I also am an admirer of Kari’s work, but his pieces are beyond my means, so this piece offers me an opportunity to have a bit of both.
I have a large percentage of my collection in sport watches, and I like the idea of adding some diversity. The run up in the Nautilus makes it tempting to add that diversity with no additional financial outlay.
However, I do love my Nautilus even though the 5726 is probably the least popular Nautilus model. It was my first Patek, and I bought it before the craze we see today when I could have bought any of the Nautilus models - which I like the idea of because my choice was pure and not influenced by any hype we may see in the market today.

I know I'm in the minority here but I'd do it in a heartbeat! If the PP was a 5070, maybe not. Still, follow your heart, not mine.

At this point I don’t have any watches in my collection that I would be indifferent about letting go of.
So to answer your question, yes I would miss the Nautilus, and this is really where my hesitation started. Perhaps that’s all I need to consider and beyond that I’m just over complicating things.

I'd make the trade for the Gronefeld without hesitation
The nautilus is nice, but the Gronefeld is a real piece of art. Quite surprised that the most responses favor keeping the Patek, especially on the independents forum.

For the Patek. As shared in a previous post, you will always have chances to afford new timepieces in the future, but it’s harder to have that special moment of getting a more collectible watch with your own name on it at the Patek dealer. It’s something pretty special, and while I also think highly of the Remontoire and some cash back, I suspect there will be more opportunities in the future to get a Gronefeld customized than to get a steel Patek with your name on it in the foreseeable future. Save up!

I didn't see that 5726/1As are trading for over $100K.
If that's the case, I agree that you need to be getting more for the trade. I think a 1941 with Kari dial should be priced in the 50-70K range depending on material, condition, and dial type. Regardless, I'd cash in on the nautilus hype and sell.
