When compared with their pricier offerings, the UR100 surely could be called as the URWERK entry level piece; though at $60K it still burns a hole through the wallet.
While their hallmark style of Satellite wandering hours display and the retrograde pointer date below that was avant garde a while ago, nevertheless it is only fit that each manufacture expands the range of offerings so that collectors of the brand have significant variety to appreciate and therefore be stimulated to add to their collection.
No notable complications have been issued by Urwerk that are within wearable dimensions. Few models have offered day/night indicators and the oil-change functions.
The UR1001 which did offer a calendar complication has a monstrous dimension of 106 x 62 x 23 !!! and can only be called wrist watch by the most audaciously imaginative person.
Watches such as the EMC are interesting but big at 43 x 51 x 15.8mm . With the use of capacitors and optical sensors controlled by circuit board, IMHO this is less of a mechanical watch but more of an electronic gadget. Opinions of course will vary.
The AMC is brilliant and looks like something out of a sci-fi movie with the master clock synchronization capability. But again, more gadgetry than mechanical horological purity here. The atomic master clock aluminium case that is used to synchronize the watch weighs 35 kilograms !!! .
The UR 210, though extremely gladdening to the eye, is still functionally plain except for winding efficiency indicator; but again not eminently wearable by persons with normal wrist sizes, given the dimensions at 43.8mm x 53.6mm x 17.8mm.
The UR 110 is 47 mm x 51 mm x16mm.
Even the UR 103 which is somewhat wearable is still 50mm x 36mm x 13.5mm . UR 103 does provide better wearer interaction by way of manual rate adjustment.
UR 202 with its telescopic hands is more wearable at 45.6 x 43.5 x 15mm
One can argue though that the near absence of lugs unlike that of a normal lug-welded case, makes the URWERKs comparable to some extent to the lug welded traditional shapes.
I thought it would be interesting to post all the URWERK Model images below in one place. ( pic courtesy : URWERK website)
